right over left? left over right?

On the boots, do you lace right over left or left over right?
Also, do the laces start over the holes or under?

If you are worried for BCT, chill out.

I think the usual is left over right, with the laces starting over the holes, but I'm not very sure.

My DS is to the point with the Portal and the Forum to get to COS asap and get started. We have tried here to stop with the check listing. He's enjoying just having graduated and being on Senior Week at the beach. Its getting bigger in the window now, he calls the shots here on out.

Every year it seems this forum gets questions on ridiculously minute details that no appointee would be expected to know on day 1.

There are hundreds of pages of things you'll be required to know as a cadet. Exactly zero are expected to be memorized when you show up.

+1 raimius

This site is a great site for info, but realize that maybe 10% of incoming cadets have ever found this site. There is no need to go to this level, the AFA is going to instruct them on what matters most.

What they are not going to instruct them on his how they should have enjoyed these last few weeks at home with family and friends.

I highly doubt that the cadet that graduated number 1 this year out of the AFA did so because he was the cadet that came to I day with their boots laced the proper way.

I am not trying to be mean, harsh, rude or unkind, but I do agree with raimius the level of questions has risen to all an all time new level regarding minutia and the big picture is being lost in it.

Ok, these responses have caused a great deal of laughter at my house ... at my expense!

DH said that I probably should have explained why I asked the question. Hey! I just got done traveling all weekend, so I was tired. That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it.

DD got her boots and they were not laced. She asked her dad how to lace them and he said he didn't remember and not to worry about it. DD said that if she didn't have to redo them, wouldn't that save her time? I said I'd post the question, but if we didn't get any responses, then not to worry, they'll teach her when she gets there.

Seriously, DH has been through this and has emphasized many times that if you show up knowing too much (and you're not a preppie or prior), then you just become a target. So, no. There's no freaking out and the question was an innocent one.

I was under the impression that the same service that does Zoomies' laundry for them also ties their boots and prepares their PB&J sandwiches and juice boxes?

Well, DD will just love to hear this! :shake:

Reminds me of when DH told DD that they'll wake her up in the morning by lightly tapping on the door and gently calling out: "Wake up sleepy-head. Time to get up!"

She's not buying it.

I suppose you want to add 'providing a caddie' to your list?

LITS,

I actually thought you would have said:

Arrive a few days early and take her to the golf course, because when she rented golf shoes to do the AF PT she could see how they lace shoes while waiting for the golf cart :shake:

USAFA83,

Look you are being a Mom,and we get it. I will be brutally honest, it is a hard jump as a Mom, and harder still when it is a DD. I typically tell parents to cut one apron string, but your situation is unique,

Mom to Mom, my DS and I were very close, until he went AFROTC DET 330 (Bullet's alma Mater) Don't get me wrong, we are still close, however, in the next few years be prepared to see her relationships change between the two of you as parents.
~ DS is TDY at Ft Lewis currently. He called yesterday, and the 1st thing after saying hello to me, was can I talk to Dad?
~ If her dream comes true and in 6 years she wings from UPT, that relationship will be even closer as they say Lt. USAFA83GRAD's wings are her DF's class of ...UPT. They do that, and out of DS's class of 28, 3 wore that Dad's wings.

As usual, my very long way of saying, time to listen to your DH, it is a new world you are entering, and like a newlywed dependent spouse, let him guide you.

Posted with Dad, but obviously we had the same thought process!

Pima, I know you're trying to be helpful.

My relationship has already changed significantly over the last year or so as I've treated DD more like an adult and not a child. I stay out of most of what she's doing, only helping when asked. She's very independent and its something her father and I have encouraged. No helicopter mom here! DH and DD tease me all of the time about military matters. I follow DH's lead on USAFA, although I do have some experience with the military. I am an Army brat raised on posts overseas and state-side. I have left family in Germany. I also had to endure watching my father leave for Vietnam and return with half a leg blown off and so much shrapnel in his chest and face, they can't do xrays or MRIs. I have a good understanding from the military family side of things. I want my DD to be an independent, team-playing, confident and well trained officer. Believe me when I say that I know what the ultimate consequences are if she isn't.

I want to reiterate, I only posted the question out of curiosity AND only after I asked if DD wanted me to give it a shot. She isn't signed up to this forum because, unlike many of her friends, she doesn't like posting nor sharing any personal information and avoids doing so.

So, please, please, please everyone -- no one is freaking out. No one is worried about the minutiae. If I could, I would just as soon erase the question.

A lot of Cadets will have a mind purge during the bus trip to the footprints. Now is the time to relax.:shake:

I agree.

Would someone please delete this thread! It's so completely off-topic of where I wanted it to go. The question was just based on curiosity, not anyone stressing about it. Seriously, I'm embarrassed by the comments because the question was not meant to imply anyone was worried about how to tie the boots nor whether or not anyone will get yelled at during BCT. No where did I say anything about BCT...

... great. NOW I'm stressed.

USAFAMOM...

No way on God's Green Earth can we ever let this thread be deleted...

It will live on, and on and on and on and on.... until you meet some mom seven years from now and then you two will laugh about it.

It's true!

(Just ask PIMA. She and I started a phone conversation just today with

sigh....."OK"

and I knew to go grab a cup of coffee and settle in.

If no o ne else does, I promise several years from now to remind you of this thread. :)

Good to see the USMMA forum isn't the only place where we all "sometimes" get a little too vehement and off topic ...

To the original poster I say left over right and starting with over. I actually have no idea but hey when you have a 1 in 4 chance of getting it right why not take a guess - it's a philosophy that got me through my USCG Merchant Mariners License exams 34 years ago and being a true blooded American when something works I stick with it.

Haha!
Thank you Fencersmother and jasperdog. You both just brightened my day!

Fencer, you're right. I'll probably laugh about my rant into the internet void, and I'll hold you to reminding me about it in years to come.

Jasperdog - good to know we're not alone! USMMA is good company.:thumb:

Someone make it up, and then make up the reason too.

"It's right over left, to symbolize your right hand salute as you honor the flag and senior officers."

The military really does specify how to lace boots and tie them? Up until this thread, I had no idea the military regulated to that level.

I honestly have no idea if the military as a whole gets this in the weeds. If it does, no one really cares. You should see some of the bigger things that are missed on the uniforms of officers and enlisted.
