Anyone attended SLE week 1 that can share their experience?

I had a really good time and absolutely loved it. It was extremely informative and helpful in deciding whether or not USMA was the proper fit for me. The first day was the hardest - an experience similar to an incoming plebe's R-day - and the days from there on became less challenging. The friendships I made with my cadre and fellow candidates was the best part, and I foresee those connections as being beneficial in my future as I apply to USMA. The only thing I didn't like was how they treated us candidates as incompetent and immature - granted they had liability over us and were being safe, but they wouldn't even let us do simple things like heat up MREs.

Ultimately, it was a rewarding and enjoyable time. I highly recommend it to any juniors interested in USMA. If you have any specific questions or want to talk more, feel free to PM me.

It was really fun and extremely informative. I live near the gulf coast so going to visit West Point is kinda impossible unless im making a vacation of it. SLE was the perfect way for me to get to see the wonderful campus and get to actually meet people there and talk to them in person. The enviornment that you are put in is wonderful because you are sorrounded by 500 other people that want this as much as you. I knew the first night that i loved it there, R-day was challenging but not so much so that i thought it insurmountable. The cadre do a good job at putting on their game face and busting you when you first get there but when you actually get to talk to your squad leader and the rest of the cadre in your platoon you get to know them as individuals. As per LC I thought they treated us exactley how they should have, they gave you a taste of what it would be like your first year there. You won't have much independence and will be treated as incompetant until proven otherwise.

It was an awesome program to attend and I really wish i was still there. It really surprised me the bonds that you form with people you only know for a week when you are going through shared experiances. All in all, a great way to get to ask your questions about admissions and find out what departments may interest you, if you are serious about West Point then you should strive to achieve high act/sat scores so you can attend SLE

Yeah, used to be that you were never allowed to use the heater during Beast and when "tactical" during any other time of training at West Point. That may or may not have changed. My guess is not since they did it to y'all. Get used to it, depending on situation and time available, you may not get to use the heater at various points throughout your Army career.

ha...when I was deployed - we never used the heater anyway....I mean - they are MREs - a little heat is not going to help them out much anyway and food in the field is simply calorie intake - LOL!
