What are some of the reasons for somebody to get dismissed on Rday?

What happens to them? Do they have to reapply for the next year?

I'm asking because at the moment I can only do 1-2 pull-ups. I scored higher on my cfa but after slacking off during the winter I can't seem to regain my strength.

Thanks in advance

I believe there was at least one cadet sent home on R-Day last year because the cadet could not complete even one pull-up.

I believe that pull ups are part of the application related CFA (and later Ranger or SF). Beast is the real Army, not CFA. The standard is the Army standard. 2 Mile run, timed sit ups, and timed push ups. The standards, and scores are on line. They did pull ups at Beast last year as part of a baseline testing experiment, but they are not part of the Army standard, so are not 'passed' at USMA. But being out of shape, seperate from the must past Army Fitness standard, will definately not get you on to a good start.

There are many potential reasons but in each individual's case it depends on the totality of their profile. If you can do some pullups you'll be fine. Not many people can do a bunch of pullups.

Last year, at least one cc was sent home on R-day for being overweight. Several reminders were sent to cc's in the Spring to show up within the permissible weight or tape measurements. There may have been more, but I do know of one who exceeded tape requirements. Also, showing up injured (a cast on an arm or a leg), failing a drug screen (taken within the first three days) are among other possible reasons.

Respectfully disagree. Beast is NOT the real Army. There is a reason why participants of Beast are called new cadets, not privates.

Beast is no more "real Army" than West Point (and the Coast Guard Academy is no more "real Coast Guard"). Yes, they are REAL.... but there is a divide betweent he reality at an academy and the service you're getting into. That's not an attack on the individual academies.... if anything, it means you have something to look forward to or dread.

Misunderstood me. The fitness standard that must be passed is the Army standard, not the applicant CFA. No more basketball throws, shuttle runs, or pull-ups. It's sit ups, push ups, and 2 mile. It's the same test as 'real' army.

I didn't misunderstand you. I replied to what you wrote. Read your posting again.

We had clicker boards for our APFT - a piece of 2x 4, metal spring in between a plywood that clicked every time we went down on a push up. I guess a current cadet can verify if clicker board is still being used or not. If so, you will not find a such thing in the Army PT regulation. As West Point does have many things in common with the real Army, but time at West Point is just that time at West Point.

And, unless things have changed, minimum APFT standards for USMA cadets are not the same as minimum APFT standards for the "real Army"

Male or Female? (Big difference with pull-ups)

No pullups on the APFT, so less of an issue there. Look up the APFT and USMA standards for it. That and the weight/taping issue mentioned previously are the bigger issues during CBT.

You'll still want to improve pull-ups during CBT if Male, but if you are reasonable fit otherwise I'd not lose sleep over it as an R-day issue. Where you'd be at disadvantage is stuff like confidence courses, etc later in CBT.

Don't know about recent years, but 2015 DS indicated his squad leader would find the new cadet's kryptonite... his was leg-lifts and she could do them almost indefinitely.

But if you want to do competitive stuff (Competitive MIAD's, sandhurst, etc) you'll want decent upper body strength.
