What are your chances of attending USMA if you have been wait listed?

My question is pretty straight forward but I was also wondering how many applicants that apply to USMA accept their appointment and how many applicants don't. Also, what are some tips to ensure that I have a solid chance of being accepted?

Can you tell me what your definition of "wait list" means? Yes, although I am an FFR, I don't get involved with or are kept in the loop with direct communication between the admissions office and candidates. But, I am pretty sure there is no "wait list" for West Point. My definition of "wait list" is getting an official correspondance (email or letter) from the admissions office stating something along the line of you are "wait list" and if a slot opens up you will be appointed. Getting a QNS, qualified not seleect, letter is not being as wait listed.

As for your question, last fews years about 1400 appointment offers and about 1200 accepted.

It might sound stuipd, but increasing your chance of getting accepted is by having better class ranking, better SAT/ACT scores, better leadership, better sports, better CFA, and/or better interview than your COMPETITORS.

When I say "wait listed" I mean that there is a national wait list for those who don't make the initial list, they're put on a separate list so if the candidate chooses not to go, the next candidate will be called (this is what I heard).

The "NWL" is an ordered ranking of qualified candidates by WCS who do not win their congressional or other appointment slate. By law the top 150 off that kist are offered appointments, with up to 150 more potentially offered appointments at the discretion of the academy, without regard to WCS.

As a rule it is much more likely you will be offered an appointment due to winning a slate then by WCS since in recent years around 1500-2000 candidates are QNS. So as MemberLG says, get your test scores and class ranking up to improve your chances.
