Hi all,

I have interview with ALO this coming Wednesday (which is in 2 days) via Skype because I live a bit far away from her... Cross ocean distance lol

I'm planning to have my resume that consists of my activities, awards, etc... and MAYBE wear my NJROTC uniform

Does anyone have experience with Skype interview? Any tips/advice? Do's and don'ts?

I noticed this isn't as common as face to face interviews that other people have so I'm a bit nervous to be honest.

Jun0602,
Did you have to submit a certain amount of paperwork to get your ALO interview scheduled so early?? Honestly, I can't wait to get that interview over with!!!!

Would anyone be able to tell me if it is a good or bad idea to wear a Civil Air Patrol uniform when I do get the interview?

Regarding the uniform...wear it ONLY if you have if perfect and it's important to you...but be ready to explain WHY you wore it.

In "general" (and I asked this of my senators entire interview team last November) it's okay to wear the uniform as long as you meet all the standards required of it!

I'd probably ask you to tell me what your ribbons were, the requirements to get them, etc. But then again, I've been a CAP member for 39 years!

No I didn't. I completed my Pre-candidate questionnaire sometime in February (I applied for USNA Summer Seminar and just figured I'd complete other academy questionnaires) but nothing else after becoming official candidate. In fact, my ALO contacted my via email first to set up for Skype interview. I'm guessing it depends on which type of ALO you have.

I'm wearing my NJROTC uniform so there shouldn't be any problems with CAP uniform :thumb:

Yes, it's very important to me... it pretty much summarizes most of my high school year accomplishments in an attire. Also, during my sophomore year, I received 11 out of 10 during Annual Military Inspection by the Inspecting Officer (Captain in Navy) so I think it fits me pretty neatly.

& Thank you for the heads-up. I'll make note of it

Wear uniform to skype interview?

I hope you see this in time. My son is a cadet captain and an appointee - CAP does not authorize wearing your uniform for an interview!!! My son wore a suit! FYI I worked for a member of Congress and when we interviewed we never recommended uniforms - always suits and female suits or dresses. The ones who showed up in their uniforms got no favor over those who did not. We went off their record of merit and their preparedness.
Good Luck.

I disagree with clearbluskyys. CAP MANUAL 39-1 26 JUNE 2014 Personnel
CIVIL AIR PATROL UNIFORM MANUAL states the following in regards to prohibited wearing of the CAP uniform:
1.2.7. When NOT to wear the CAP Uniform.
1.2.7.1. At a meeting of, or sponsored by an organization, association, movement, or group
the Attorney General of the United States has named as totalitarian, fascist, communist or subversive; 10 CAPM 39-1 26 JUNE 2014

advocates or approves acts of force or violence to deny others their rights under the Constitution of the
United States; seeks to change the United States Government by unconstitutional means; while
participating in public speeches, interviews, picket lines, marches or rallies or in any public demonstration
when participation may imply USAF sanction of the cause.
1.2.7.2. At any public meeting, demonstration, march, rally or interview if the purpose may
be to advocate, express or approve opposition to the Armed Forces of the United States.
1.2.7.3. Under any circumstance that would tend to bring discredit or reproach upon the
uniform.
1.2.7.4. While furthering political activities, private employment or commercial interest.
1.2.7.5. More than 1 hour following the close of the activity except for travel time to and
from such activities for which the uniform is specified (unit meetings, seminars, conferences, training
activities, CAP Command Council meetings, etc.).
1.2.7.6. When off base eating at restaurants where most diners wear business attire or at
establishments that operate primarily to serve alcohol, do not wear utility type uniforms or the flight duty
uniform.
1.2.7.7. CAP personnel may not wear USAF-style uniforms when flying in first class. This
is to avoid the perception of the misuse of government travel resources.

As well DS wore his uniform to his Congressional interview on advice of his Squadron Commander. It was not convenient for him to wear his uniform for his ALO interview so he didn't. Nothing in the regs prohibit such.
