Selective Service Mistake

Well with the Congress, the President and voters we have, no chance of outdated laws being updated.

Suppose a Congressman wants to get rid of the selective service, he or she has to find time between time off, fund raising, media commentary, and etc to work on it. More than like several house committees have jurisdiction over the selective service, so it will have to clear all the committees. I am sure there are some federal employees supporting the selective service system so a federal employee union will object. Even if it makes it out of committees, it will get attached to another bill that other side find objectionable so it will get on hold. Or there will be something on CNN and Fox that will distract the Congress from doing their job.

Good Point. Cant argue! We probably still have an agency regulating Stage Coaches.

Best way to get rid of it is to require women from 18 - 25 to register.....it'll happen quickly!

The buggy whip lobby is fuming about it. They claim excessive regulations have lead to widespread use of infernal combustion machines and major losses of jobs at buggy whip makers.

I'm not sure that would have the same impact today as it would have even 10 yrs ago. The thought of women in the military, women in combat, women being wounded in combat, women being killed in combat, women being POWs . . . the American public is somewhat desensitized to it. As an aside, we shouldn't be desensitized to ANYONE (male or female) in any of the above situations, but that's reality.

Thus, I would expect there to be some hue and cry but not as much as in years past.

Too funny...

I had read this the other day and got a chuckle.

I dont use buggy whips often. When I do, I make sure the buggy whip lobby is happy. Stay thirsty my friends.

Chuck Huey, 73, of Kingston, said he got a notice addressed to his late grandfather Bert Huey, a World War I veteran who was born in 1894 and died in 1995 at age 100.

"I said, 'Geez, what the hell is this about?' It said he was subject to heavy fines and imprisonment if he didn't sign up for the draft board," he said. "We were just totally dumbfounded."

Huey said he tried calling the Selective Service but couldn't get a live person on the line.

I guess that makes it even?
