North Korea Military Prowess

I think South Korea could invade North Korea with and get the NKA to surrender by offering them Twinkies and pork rinds.

North Korean state would collapse in a week.

The reason they don't?

South Korea (nor China, for that matter) doesn't want to "adopt" 20 million North Koreans who don't know how to work for a living and will be reliant on South Korean welfare until they die.

And South Korea (like any country) doesn't want its capital city flattened with a hellish bombardment of artillary.....

Interesting charts, but as usual, rather meaningless unless context is considered.

Lots of folks get hung up on just how much America spends on the military. And I'll probably shock a few here, but for the most part I AGREE that the size of our military, and the associated spending, does need to decrease significantly (mostly because we can't afford it, and the current international situation would allow for it). But few understand WHY we do so.

So, why is America stuck being the world's cop? Why isn't it another country like Great Britian, or Germany, or France :)eek:), or the entire EU combined? How come everyone else gets to sit back, reduce the size of their miltiaries, and live the high hog off our our sweat and sacrifice?

Well, you wanna be the big dog, you gotta put up to be the big dog. We WANT a secure international environment, complete with secure lines of communication and commerce, so we can keep our economic engine running. THAT is our real strength, not how many tanks or planes we have, buy how big our economy is compared to everyone else, and how many of our dollars are flowing around the world. We're willing to "play cop" and pay for it because IT IS IMPORTANT TO US THAT WE DO SO, based on our economic equities.

Now some may say "Bullet, you silly guy. How can you call today's international environment secure? What, with the Ukraine, the Middle East, the Global War on Terrorism, the impending Zombie Apocalypse, etc. all happening right now?" Well, yes, those ARE concerns. But they are not "Our way of life is about to end" concerns (except the Zombies. Really nervous about those Zombies). For now. Look at the world's international situation since 1945. Remember, just before that time, the world powers kept going at one another, with bigger and bigger wars, and bigger and bigger body counts associated with those wars. 40 MILION PLUS from WWII alone, and that is a low-ball estimate. No, today's international stage, while troubling, is pretty secure based on where we were heading before America became the World Cop.

Is it time for our "partners" to share the burden some? Sure. But when folks start telling you that we should gut our military because we have so much more important stuff to spend our money on, I simply ask them, "Like what?" That, and "So, wold you like to spend $10 for a gallon of gas, and increase your graocery bill to be twice as expensive?"

Be proud that the US military is the "World Cop" for a reason, and proud of what we accomplished while being it. Without our presence, the world would have been a LOT less safer place.

Now, let's go kill some zombies! :thumb:

We also had the little event in October 1962. I was born 9 months later. I guess my parents figured what the hell.

I agree that the U.S. is a "world cop" (a title that includes more than just military might) and I agree that, without the U.S., the world would be a less safe place. But I also believe that stability is of a global interest.

If tomorrow the U.S. stopped providing the bulk of the International Ice Patrol... and ships started slamming into ice bergs in the north Atlantic... well, if it was in someone's interest to stop that from happening, they would step up to do it.

A police man is not a police man only because he wants to protect his community. Sure he does but he also wants to get paid, and he wants health insurance and he wants a pension. He benefits from his work. His community does too. If he steps down, as the sole law enforcement man in a town, well, maybe some chaos will reign, but eventually someone else steps in or the power is distributed across multiple law men. He doesn't have the "power" he once had, which is less advantageous for him, but the energy to provide the service is bourne by others and society marches on.

The U.S. does not provide the service of "World Cop" for the greater good... it does it for the U.S.'s insterests (as it should). Sometimes interests of the two coincide.

Am I the only one who gets a little nervous when someone with Bullet's experience starts talking about zombie invasions...

I'm just going to put this out there... if there is a zombie invasion, and you were hoping to go to LITS for support.... save your energy... I do NOT want to live in a post-zombie invasion world. But before I go down in flames of glory.... I will buy one of these banjos...

http://www.deeringbanjos.com/products/goodtime-zombie-killer-5-string-banjo

Fine lookin' banjo...But before she lets me buy one and sends me out with it to ward off the zombies, my wife wants to know if there's a money-back garuntee. Also, does the 145,212,000 US manpower include or not include American zombies?

It's not a great banjo, but you don't bring a great banjo to kill zombies. Also, I don't think zombies as U.S. citizens, as they are dead, and I don't believe they are loyal.

Well, since the Pentagon already has a battle plan for zombies, I guess it's no surprise.

Pentagon Document Lays Out Battle Plan Against Zombies

Even though the Pentagon says it's just a fun exercise, I am not taking any chances and I always follow the rules.
1. Cardio
2. Double Tap
3. Beware of Bathrooms
4. Wear Seat Belts
etc.......
