Hello, I was just curious if anyone has heard from their son or daughter that is currently at Maxwell Airforce base field training-Max 4? Of course, I have had no word from my son so Im a bit anxious. Also, does anyone know when they go to Camp Shelby? As a mother, it is really getting to me to have absolutely no word. Wondering if they are sending cadets home. I guess in that respect, no word from him is a good thing!

No word yet, either. DS isn't one for writing home but I expect DGF (is that legit for dear girlfriend?) should be getting some word soon.

My mother (his grandmother) got a letter from him yesterday, dated 7/9. She's terminally ill and I told her that if he only had time to write one person it should be her. He said that he loved it, was having a great time and didn't miss home at all. Then said "just kidding". He said they picked him apart for every little thing and that it was very hot. But he did say he loved his flight and that they made a great team. He's also not a writer so I expect that might be all we hear. I'll take it, though.

Thank you for that! It's good to know that at least one cadet is enjoying it! Hopefully the same with my son. So sweet of your son to write your mother-prayers/blessing to your family.

What flight is your son in, do you know?

I heard about people getting sent home from my det. Does anyone known if it's worse than previous years? Is it mostly SIE or are they just giving people the boot? Do you think FT is worst this year because they have to pack everything into a shorter amount of time?

There are a handful sent home every year. From MAX's 1-3, it doesn't sound like this year is any worse than earlier years. Most (not all, but most) of the eliminations seem to be occurring at Maxwell, not Shelby. MAX 4 is already at Shelby and has been for a couple of days.

It seems to me that if anyone from MAX 4 was coming home, they would more than likely already have been sent home.

Aren't they all sent home on day 22? Seriously though, that would be pretty devastating to make it to the end and not pass!!!

Thanks DocG for the update - almost as good as hearing it from DS. So has Max 5 started yet? I can't believe how fast the summer is flying by (probably not so much for the cadets at SFT)

I believe Max 2 had 4 cadets sent home from Camp Shelby alone on TD-21.

No one was completely sure of the reasons, but one was definitely "failure to adapt".

Max 5 starts Wednesday. I'm going and I'm excited and nervous at the same time :).

Everyone I've heard from said it was hard but they had a good time and met a lot of good people.

Got a letter from DS today, really nice to hear from him. He said that the first couple of days were terrible, but each day has gotten better. He said that his flight has really bonded and that he has made alot of new friends. Like Doc updated, they are at Camp Shelby now. His letter was written in a journal form, so I could see how his morale and confidence improved each day. Hope the others on here still waiting for a letter hear from your Children soon.

We got a letter from DS today! Yay! He says it's harder than he had anticipated (not physically but mentally) and that every minute of his day is controlled by all of the little details and procedures that they have to learn. He says it's hot (do they have AC in their sleeping quarters???). He loves the combatives, assault course, pistol training and leadership challenges. He says he is so thankful to get our letters and that he can't wait to come home to a house with no yelling. :)

That's so great! Still haven't heard from my DS but at least I am getting insight from these posts. That's better than nothing!!! Can't wait til the 25th so I can hear all about it!! I wonder if they have been I formed about thIS whole Total Force Commissioning Process that was just released. Hoping that hasn't put a "damper" on their time there at FT. That bit of news is quite concerning.

Yep, almost time to get on that bus to Bama. Nervous but exited for Max 5 over here too. Everyone except for me and another cadet from my det have gone through already and said similar things.

Good luck to those leaving for Max 5 on Wednesday! Just take it one day at a time and soon it will be a distant memory. God Bless:wink:

Good luck to those going to Max 5. I just got back from Max 3 it was a blast! Just remember everything they do they are evaluating your leadership. Keep that long term goal in mind and you will all be successful.

To OP - There is not always a lot of time to write letters and also the "Snail Mail" takes forever especially if he is in Shelby. I sent a letter home on TD 14 and I was home before it arrived.

Someone from my det got sent home maybe 12 hours before graduation last year. Most cadets that got sent home from Camp Shelby were already gone but it happens. It sucks because she had done all of the work that everyone else did but she isn't a cadet anymore.
