In regards to the ALO interview

Hi everyone,

I have a (probably) dumb question here, but here goes. I've already established prior contact with my ALO, and he knows who I am and what not, but I just am not sure where to advance forward with my application. Should I go ahead and shoot him an e-mail inquiring when it would be most convenient for him to arrange an interview between us, or do I have to wait until he contacts me, and if so - when would that be? I'm trying to get everything done as soon as possible so that I can hopefully standout in the application process.

Sending him a message first will definitely show that you are more motivate than others applying so I would do that but in the end it will be his decision and he will contact you.

Once you've completed a certain number of items on your application, the academy will automatically generate a no-later-than date that your ALO must complete your interview and your form 4060. So just do your application and don't worry about your ALO and when they'll do your interview. They have deadlines to do their part. Sometimes they may extend those deadlines, but it won't be by much. For instance; I have 9 candidates that I have to interview and do 4060 forms for. I'm about 99.9999378483% positive I'm not going to get all 9 of them done in the next 30 days. But I will be getting them done soon. Remember; you're most likely not your ALO's only candidate. You do your job and they'll do theirs. Good luck.

Ah that makes sense, so would you advise against me sending an email? Would I just be bugging my ALO in that case? That's the last thing I would ever want to do.

Just saying you don't need to. About the interview that is. Hopefully you've spoken at least once by now. Maybe your drug and alcohol briefing. If not, you could send an email stating that you're excited about applying and working with them during the process. Your interview will be individual. Your alo isn't going to compare you to others when giving you your scores. It will be based on your accomplishments, motivation, and attitude. Best of luck.

Sending a message to him first shows initiative, but remember to use proper customs and curiosities when you do show. Ask your ALO when they are available, and thank them profusely. Remember they are here to help you, but they also are very busy and you are asking a favor of them to help you with your dream.

Would it be okay to shoot them an e-mail that just says that we've started our application and tell them what our progress is, or would that seem annoying and redundant. I haven't talked to my ALO since I told him I was accepted as a candidate, and I haven't heard from him either.

A lttile bit to add on with CC's post. Remember ALO's have a life too which includes a job and a family. IOWS give them some lead way before you start the my ALO isn't responding to my emails and it has been ten days.
~ They may be on a well deserved family vacation for two weeks and when they get back they need to catch up with the emails for their "real" job.
~ Some ALOs are also ADAF, they typically PCS in the summer. There might be new to the area and settling in their own family.

Now for shooting them an email, you will get different answers. Some will say shoot them an email, some will say don't b/c you can become a very squeaky wheel.

Do what you are comfortable with, but also remember the boards are not going to meet for @3 more months, there is no real rush at this time IMPO. Instated use this time to practice your CFA, study for the fall SAT/ACTs, start writing your essays for the AFA and noms.
~ This way when you do the interview you can ask questions directly to them or have answers to their questions.

~ Currently I can only do 3 pull ups, any suggestions to increase my numbers?
~ My SAT score is 650M does that seem low for your candidates
~~~~~ Remember you need a nom., as CC stated they could have 10 candidates. Those candidates are going to be your MOC competition.
