I read that you can't have an mp3/music player as a 4 dig. Is this correct? If so, what would they do if your phone plays music?

Correct, you would be able to have them late March.

If your phone plays music, o well. Can't control that. Don't get caught though for those with iphones, etc.

CC has a good discussion about cell phones. If curious look there, a few pages in. I'd link to it, but I am getting a server too busy message.

[EDIT] cell phones link

each squadron is different but after a certain time every squad will allow you to keep your cellphone.

I want to play saxophone or mellophone in a band. When will I be able to have my instrument? Can I keep it in my room, or is there a practice room?

Thanks.

so if i was going to try out for jazz band on trumpet would my parents bring the trumpet with them over parents weekend or what? when are tryouts for that btw?

No idea when try-outs are. Yes, having parents bring the trumpet during PW is the best time.

rule of thumb for most squads is no phone acceptance-parents weekend, weekends from parents weekend-prog, if you arent on probation, then all the time after prog.

acceptance: first week of august
PW: last week in august/first in september
prog: middle october

so....

So, we can have instruments in our room as a 4 degree?? I have been playing piano for majority of my life and don't want to give it up. Just wondering if they would allow a keyboard in my dorm. And if so, during what time of the year?

This is all, of course, just a few posts before in the thread. All instruments can be used and kept in rooms, even by 4 digs.

but wait, what if i want to bring my guitar. can i keep it in my...haha joking.

but no seriously, i thought mp3 players were like a big NO. if you are able to use them, when can you use them? when you work out? when you are studying?

There is a piano in Sijan which my cadet uses for practice. We heard one cadet there who played like he was a concert pianist, and we heard one guy practicing from the Lesson A book (1st book of piano lessons).

I think they have music on their phones, but won't listen to it until given the ok.

Upperclassman use mp3 players. 4 digs are authorized them AFTER recognition in March. We can use them IN the gym, or just around. Not authorized in uniform or academic areas.

yep, in the Oasis in Sijan there's a piano that anyone can play on. i also have a friend in my squad with a keyboard

Well, they did these presentations about the application process, and talked about what is considered competitive for SAT, ACT, GPA, AP/IB, etc. The talks just seemed to have made people desperate for an appointment, and so the questions began... in summary, everyone started describing their individual academic scenarios, and the questions went on for way too long (like 30 minutes).
