Anyone have this yet? Haven't seen the July Newsletter yet for class size, though I check fairly regularly.
 
As of 14 July class of 2018 is 1206, 2017 1082, 2016 851, 2015 870.

Do you know if this means that they will admit more people for the class of 2019 in order to reach 4,000?
 
Actually, those numbers add up to 4009. They will likely be less than that in August after BCT and Commitment.
No word on next year yet, you just never know, many factors go into the decision.
 
I just figured it would already be less with classes starting in a few days, and commitment right then, too.

Agreed. It also depends on the current and future needs of the Air Force (many factors).
 
The 4,000 mandate is based on the size of the Wing on the last day of academic classes. So by May 2015, it will be well below 4,000 after commitment, A-Day, homesick Doolies going home, honor hits, academic probation issues, etc.

The term commitment is a new one to me. Just exactly what is it?
 
Commitment is the term used for a cadet who needs to make up his/her mind to... stay one more day and owe real, future time to the nation and the Air Force for the education and training that is being received; versus get out today before the the nation and Air Force realizes that the money invested in the cadet must be paid back in service.

There is a specific day when that decision point is made, usually very early in the second class (Junior) year.

Commitment night: Stay one more day receiving the education and training, and you will be in the Air Force no matter how your cadet career ends. Get out right now, and walk away as a civilian with nothing owed.
 
Commitment is M1, first day of classes for the junior year. If you sit down for classes day one junior year, you are committing to repay the government for your education. Prior to that, you can leave without any obligation, time or money. If you leave after that or are dis enrolled you will owe service time or money for your education if the USAF feels you are not appropriate to serve (kicked out for honor, etc). There is a diner the night before honoring those who are committing themselves to the USAF.

Commitment Dinner Fun?

Hey all. Just curious. DH and I were talking about the dinner last night. He mentioned that - back when it was hard :rolleyes: (class of '81) - the entire class went to dinner the night before commitment in a particular outfit (he called it 'greens') that out-processing cadets wear. Said it was a joke to make it look as if the entire class was not committing. Said it was tradition. Has this tradition survived?
 
As I recall, the class of 2012 (Hap!) wore their mess dress or maybe even service blues, but the memory fades...
 
Class of 2015 wore service dress.

I distinctly remember picking the wrong time to be out on the terrazzo. . . which was right after the Commitment dinner.

One in 10 cadets is a high school valedictorian; one in nine an Eagle Scout and one in two cadets graduated in the top 10-percent of their high school's graduating class.

LOL Parkmom, I wasn't far behind your DH, (class of 88) and I don't even remember a commitment dinner, but on commitment day a bunch of us wore the green fatigues and low quarters to school (that was the out processing uniform for anyone that was leaving USAFA) giving the impression that the majority of the class was "punching". We also played the song " Should I Stay or Should I Go" throughout the squadron halls.
