A possible Math problem ( college)

As some of you know i'm currently attending community college and will be reapplying for 2019 and possibly 2020. I understand the naval academy is very straightforward with a freshman's or first year applicant's schedule for classes. One of the most important classes from what i've heard is calculus. Recently i was in a conversation with an instructor for a math refresher course i'm currently taking since i did not take a math senior year. I encountered two problems within this conversation:

-Apparently, The starting math course at this college is not calculus, but college algebra. I realize this will bring problems with my application, since this a major course in a plebe schedule.

-I might not be able to take Calculus my first year due to college algebra, and i don't know if i can do anything about that because of the way the system works here. I think Calculus is a second year course here.

So What should i do? i have to take a placement exam for the math, and i'm praying that i score high enough to get college algebra and not a developmental class, cause that will seriously look bad on my transcripts

You won't know how to respond until you find out where you're placed. Regardless of whether that's college algebra or calculus, earn an A. (Don't grub for points - earn them.) Form a study group with other serious students, go to your professor's student hours, attend every class no matter how boring or tedious, designate study time every day - EVERY day.

As someone who teaches a science in college, I understand the rather rigid placement of students into the right math and English courses. If you are placed in college algebra, you should make note of that in your application.

Others (your BGO, usna1985...) may have some additional advice.

I'm sure there are people who can guess about how admissions would feel about college algebra but at some point DC, you need to just play the hand you are dealt.

Fill out the application, contact your MOCs, take the CFA, do your medical exam and interview with the BGO. Work hard at your CC classes and get As. There is only so much you can control, just make sure you control it well!

i guess youre right, all that matters is that i put the effort and at least try... I just need to take care of that application, but do i feel out another prelim application if i already completed one for NASS junior year of high school?

My guess is that your old NASS app is no longer valid. I would fill out a new one, or call admissions and ask them.

Alright I'll give them a call.. and if that's the case I'll stay a new one
