Hi all,

I was just wondering what the difference between the Candidate Academic Information and High School Transcript was. Yes, they are separate required documents. Thank you all

I think the Candidate Academic information is something you fill out and then USNA sends it to your school for validation. At the same time they send the email to your school they send instructions (to the email of school official you supplied) for sending in the transcript to USNA.

Sending in the candidate academic information for validation will not automatically make your school send your transcript. You probably need to ask your guidance office to send it in.

My DS is in the middle of completing his USNA file. USNA prompts the candidate to enter the email address of his or her HS counselor. They state that they will request an official transcript from the counselor along with the counselor's comments on the candidate.

Still a good idea to at least discuss it with the guidance counselor so they can be on the look out for it.... especially since it might very well end up in their spam folder.

Very good point, Kinnem. DS sent the counselor and email with a heads-up. The counselor is a military spouse so she is very supportive!

Not quite because it only asks for my counselor's email and name. I didn't have to fill out anything else. But I think it just requests the counselor for the transcript. Thank you for the reply.

That makes sense. Thank you!

You should have filled out part of the application that asks about classes you have taken or are going to take that are not reflected on your transcript. That is the Candidate Academic Information that is sent to your counselor for validation.

I would say that the Candidate Academic Information is information provided by the candidate, himself, about his credentials so that the academy can make a quick, preliminary assessment about their viability as a candidate. Obtaining the High School transcript is the next step where the academy gets official verification (from the school, itself) that this information is accurate; otherwise, candidates could deceptively inflate their grades, courses and achievements.

The Candidate Activities Record (CAR) is separate from the Candidate Academic Information. Both are filled out by the candidate and validated by a school official, but they are two separate entries on the Candidates application portal.

Bottom Line: Your counselor has to verify the candidate academic information AND send transcripts, so contact your counselor ahead of time and let them know they will be getting several emails from USNA asking them to verify information and let them know they will also have to send hard copy snail mail official transcripts to USNA admissions.
