Army football +New Coach + Changes in training = Winning?

Only time will tell.

Something is missing from the formula

Army football + new coach + changes in training + X = winning.

If I could only figure out what the X is . . . .

Folks might agree or disagree but I think we can argue that Ross and Ellerson were "good" football coaches. I am sure they made some changes.

Sometimes changes are good. I don't think West Point is perfect. During my cadet days, I believe during yearling year military training, Football players were in one company, during yearling year they did DCLT as a big group, and etc.

I took a summer class, in addition to two normal summer requirements, to improve my overall GPA. I didn't get to take one less class during the academic year, but why not allow varsity athletes or regular cadets to take a summer class and take one less class during the academic year? We not changing the graduation requirement? Beyond required training during the summer, individual development events are picked by cadets.

I believe that this old "FarSide" cartoon captured it :

I don't think it's a miracle. If it was, we will not be having this discussion.

Calling Air Force's past success or Navy's current success as a miracle might be too reaching. One or two years, yes it's a miracle. Coach Ellerson took the Army to 7-6 record back few years ago. Perhaps that was a miracle.

A sub formula to the miracle might be

miracle = highly paid coach + different standards football players
