I was wondering how much an AFA score can influence selection, and whether my scores were solid enough:
95 sit-ups
52 pushups
5:30 run

Navy option or Marine option? I assume Navy but you know what happens when we assume.

What is an AFA in terms of a NROTC scholarship application?

I know the NROTC Navy applicants require a physical fitness test of crunches, pull-ups and 1-mile run.

Just not sure of the AFA you are referring to.

Navy option. Applicant fitness assessment is what my local recruiter called the sit-ups, pushups, and 1-mile run test

This is new this year, so my son did not have to do this but I can tell you that on the PFT chart your sit-ups are "excellent" and your push-ups are "good'. They run 1.5 miles so I can't speak to the mile other than it sounds really fast to me! Looks like good numbers.

Good luck!

Actually it's a re-introduction of the fitness assessment which they had abandoned for a few years. God knows why they abandoned it, but I think a number of Navy Options showed up in poor shape over the past few years. I'm sure a fair number dropped because they couldn't keep up with the physical demands. Of course it's surmise on my part based on limited observation.

You can find more info of what you'll actually do in NROTC here: http://www.military.com/military-fitness/navy-fitness-requirements/navy-basic-training-pft

I rechecked the NROTC website and the supplemental form is in fact the "NROTC Applicant Fitness Assessment" and does call for crunches, push-ups and 1-mile run. So AFA is correct.

Sorry for the confusion. Guess I shouldn't multi-task while posting!
