DS was at LTX this weekend and was told the MSIIs would be going to CIET this summer, not definite for the MSIs. Assume CLC will follow after MSIII yr for the class of 2017? Anyone else heard anything similar?

MSII DS said the exact same thing. He was told that it is definite for MSII. IDK

How will this new requirement for MSII's affect things like CULP or slots for Airborne or other special schools? Just curious because DS is a contracted 4 year scholarship MSII working on his CULP application with aspirations of going to Airborne this summer.

In the past MS-III's went to LDAC and other schools or CULP.

I'm assuming it will be the same in this format. It will be up to the battallion and CC to do the scheduling.

I think it would be very hard to do CULP, airborne and Knox in one summer but suppose it could happen with the right schedule.

Not everyone would go to Knox at the same time.

MSIII's are not the priority for CULP. Do they go? Yes. But it is geared toward MSII's and some MSI's.

DS received an email yesterday saying that he is not qualified for CULP since he went last summer. He is a MS II. Has anyone heard of this? He said he applied about a week ago and his application was submitted. ????

My DS said something about this this past summer when he returned from his CULP deployment. CULP I think is now one and done. If you go as an MSII or I you're not eligible to repeat. No official word in writing, just what my DS "heard."

Cajun - have your son look at Project Go if that's where his interests lie. Most MSII's, however, usually try to pick up a skill school such as Abn or Air Assault.

process of elimination

If you are one-and-done for CULP...
and
MSIIs would be going to CIET...
and
MSIIIs would be going to CLC....

would that make this year's CULP primarily for MS1s?

I asked DS (ms1) about Abn or Air Assault since his brother is trying to do that over summer from USNA and they had originally talked about trying to do this together (hahaha needle in a haystack) but DS said that was for MS11 yr.

From what has been written about CIET, the plan was for MS2's to attend CIET and then follow up training such as Airborne, Air Assault, ect. or attend CULP if selected.

If a cadet is not selected for CULP their MS1 year they can still attend the summer after their MS2 year.

I would imagine the only way a cadet would be able to attend both CULP and Summer training schools would be if they were selected for CULP their MS1 year.

As always not every cadet will have the opportunity to attend CULP or Summer training schools, though there is a push to have more cadets attend CULP.

trying to get direct answers from MS1 is difficult because Im pretty sure he thinks texting charges are per letter. The general impression I got in the ~6 character text is that he was directed that 'summer training schools' were not for MS1s.

His short and direct text (I love getting those) is probably correct. MS1's very rarely attend summer training schools such as Airborne, Air Assault, ect. MS1's that are contracted early enough to submit an application have attended CULP. My son attended CULP the summer after his MS1 year.

Vista-project GO has international and domestic programs he should apply if interested and if he contracts before the CULP deadline he should apply. I would hope that whatever training occurs after MSII year would be coordinated with CULP as it exists, staggering the training and deployments so MSIIs can do both. If you're/he's lucky you won't see him much that summer.

Cadet Command 2015 CULP message states that if you already attended CULP you are not eligible for a second CULP deployment. That is clear to me.

Just as already stated, you can only do CULP once. I have no idea if that applies to the XO positions, as that process usually requires the cadre to make a by name request to pull one in.

I would encourage all MS1's to apply for CULP and show their interest toward any summer schools they wish to attend. They may not be the priority, but they certainly can (and do) go.

Bull, could you please explain the XO positions? Im not familiar with that. Thanks

Pretty sure Cajuncarrier's DS was an MSI and had a CULP mission this past summer...

Jcleppe, you just brought up a good point that hadn't occurred to me before. My son is a freshman on a 3-yr AD scholarship. When he first arrived on campus, he was told that they used to automatically upgrade 3-yr cadets to 3.5 or 4yr. However, because of budget cuts, they are waiting a least a semester before upgrading anyone so that they have a better chance to observe the cadet in action. Therefore, it sounds like he can't even apply for CULP for the summer after freshman year, since he's not even contracted yet and the application window closes on Oct. 31st. I guess I didn't realize that they had to be contracted in order to attend (although that would make sense).
