Heads up to Californians.

A thin white envelope came from Annapolis today for DS.

Thankfully, it only contained a flyer for a USNA admissions forum in Oakland, California. Scared the daylights out of us. Whew!

Same thing happened to me a few days ago but for Jersey... do they want us to get heart attacks or something

oh thank goodness, I'm from CA and my mail tends to come in 1-2 hours. I'm so glad I saw this post beforehand

Same here for the Miami forum. Not a pleasant 30 seconds!

Trust me, you won't be getting the real TWE this early. They can't go out until after January 31st.

HEy what is the date for the Oakland event? That might be the only one for the Bay Area.

We may want our DS to attend.
Thanks

October 11th 9:00 am to noon at the Kaiser Center. Check in at 8:30 am.
DS is taking the SAT that day so he cannot be there.

Thank you for that info!

That's a SAT re-take day for our DS as well. Working to bump that math score a bit!

Good luck from San Jose.

Best of luck to you too, from Manteca!

Do you think my son should go to another academy day? He already went to several. Has had his cvw and is official candidate. The only thing he has to work on is his ACT score.

What do you mean? You said he already went to several...? Of course you can visit any Academy on your own time and walk around, but my guess is that you'd have to be a candidate for that Academy to get a CVW.

No I'm sorry he just received in the mail another USNA academy day in our local area. He has been to USNA. I didn't know if he should go to another local academy day

Thank you!! Good luck to you! The waiting a brutal.

Yes, yes it is. Negotiating the process last year made it one of the longest years in our household. Not sure how our DD and DS hold up through it! Wish your DS luck. You think it will be easier once they get in, but it's not. DS is doing well at USNA, but it's not always easy on the mids or their families!

DS had a 29 or 30 on math and a 32 or 33 overall. If I recall correctly SAT was slightly higher. It does seem to be true that it is not just one aspect of the application--it really appears to be about the entire package. Getting the highest test scores possible is just one part of the equation. My personal feelings are that there is also a little luck involved as well. Some years in some congressional districts are more competitive than others. Parents were told at PPW that this plebe class had the highest overall SAT test scores and more plebes testing out of classes than any previous years.

Have to figure that any competitive candidate at a SA has some of the best options as far as back up schools. Their 2nd and 3rd choices would often be the envy of most high school seniors in this country. Good luck to you and your DS.

My sons has
GPA:3.93
Top 25% in class
Takes AP-Calc and AP-physics
President of his junior class (running again for senior year)
NHS
Boy State Delegate

Life guard
Varsity football and Wrestln
Captain of wrestling team
Volunteers at local nursing home

He attended his CVW and loved it. He is medically qualified
Also he has been to wrestling camps and wrestling matches since Freshman year once he decided he wanted to do this.
The only set back is his ACT is 25 math 22 english. Sat 1600 (he is tkn again and tutoring)

Does anyone know if this disqualifies him?
