Hello all,

I am currently applying for the AROTC scholarship. I realized that I had some questions that I have never answered, so please help me here:

1.) How do I know if I have been selected for a scholarship? I've heard of letters being sent in the mail, but what about the online portal?

2.) If I recieve a scholarship, how long do I have to accept it? Also, how long do I have to choose a certain school to use it towards, or can I use it towards any school offered in case one school denies me?

3.) If I don't recieve a scholarship, how do I enroll in AROTC? Does this happen when planning courses through the college?

4.) What is the likely amount of scholarships usually offered? I usually hear of kids receiving their top 3 schools.

Thanks for all of the help in advance!

1) Last year I was notified via the portal at first. An official letter comes in the mail and explains what to do next.

2) I believe it's around 30 days to accept the scholarship. When you accept the scholarship you have to indicate what school you are attending.

3) If you don't recieve a scholarship no worries, enroll in MSL 101 at your school and contact your battalion and let them know you are interested in ROTC

4) It depends, usually those who get a scholarship from the first board get their top 3. I got my #1 and #3 from the second board.

Good luck!

What if I get a scholarship to my #1 and then the school denies me? Can I switch the scholarship to another school if I was offered one there?

If that happens, you can request Cadet Command to transfer the scholarship to another school that you were admitted to. There are no guarantees that it will be to the other schools that you had the choice of selecting from when you were originally offered the scholarship. It could be any of the schools you had on your list, or they may tell you that there are no more scholarship slots available to any of those schools and then you could be out of luck. That is why it is very tricky when you select your schools, especially if you are selecting highly selective schools as your choice. Most will select a school they are pretty positive they will get into, but then apply to a very selective school outside of the scholarships schools. Then if they are admitted to the highly selective school, they ask for a transfer of the AROTC Scholarship from the school where you were awarded to the highly selective school, as it is usually very difficult for these schools to fill their scholarships. There is still no guarantee that Cadet Command will grant that transfer, either, though.
