I just received an LOA to USMA, and because of that I'm trying to finish up my app as quickly as I can. My last thing to do is my DoDMERB exam, but I am about six pounds over the weight limit and honestly I'm not sure I'd pass a tape test. I run cross country and passed my CFA just fine, so will being overweight keep me out of the school? I've searched all over this forum and haven't received a great answer for this, and I'm freaking out a little. Do I schedule the exam sooner and risk a DQ for weight or put it off until I drop the pounds?

Thanks!

First, they'll tell you when to schedule the exam. I imagine you have some leeway but probably not a lot.

Second, it's my understanding you must either fall within the weight guidelines or pass the tape test. It's something you will face throughout a military career as the same restrictions apply. In fact they're more stringent later. Even if they were to grant you some leeway now, it will be a problem in the future. I'd suggest losing 6 pounds, checking to make sure you currently pass the tape test, or growing an inch, whichever you think is easier.

EDIT: If you're a cross country runner I'd be surprised if you wouldn't pass the tape test. You can find a description of how to do it along with the charts to tell you if you pass or not here: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/theorderlyroom/a/bodyfat.htm
You'll need the help of a friend or family member to do this and the appropriate measuring tape.

I actually think its up to the academy to decide whether they request a tape test. For the DODMERB they just did weight and height. I'm actually 5'7 and 200 lb , which is way above the weight limit and USNA and USMA did not have me do a tape test whereas USAFA did. Regardless I passed, so I'm sure being 6 lbs over wouldnt harm you too much right now.
