How does it work when you commission and graduate from college? Do you get on a bus right after or something? Just curious. Wondering like if there is a time between graduation and reporting to your first unit.

Quite the opposite. You enter the inactive reserve until the date you're scheduled to begin your initial entry training. That could be anywhere from a day to over a year.

^^^ What he said...to give you an example, my daughter graduated in early May. Two gentlemen in her graduating class that were commissioned into Active Duty Infantry slots and reported less than 10 days after commissioning. My daughter was a nursing major and they knew all along when their BOLC starting dates were. She reported in July, another class started in August and another starts this month.

In the tune of just keep swimming.

Just keep saying service before self...just keep saying, saying, saying!

For our DS his report date changed several times. The first was 2 days before graduation, and 7 days before commissioning!

HQ AF than said....our bad he can't make it there in time by our regulations! Here's your new date. 3 days after commissioning
~ He was commissioned in MD and reporting to Texas. By their standards he was to have 4 days travel.

Again the AF said....our bad! His orders were changed again. He was hoping for August like many of his peers going to UPT at another base, but got 9/30.

There is an old AF adage, which I am sure is true in every branch....don't trust any orders until you show up at your incoming base/post and they say Welcome, we were waiting for you!

Commissioned in May...still waiting. Hope that answers your question lol

Army ROTC or other ROTC?

I have a "date" but no orders. Like Pima said, nothing is ever for sure until you actually arrive at your base. I'm not sure what service you're in valenciaalexj but just be prepared to "hurry up and wait."

I think that qualifies as "Cart before the horse"

But....that's one question you can cross off your list.

Cart before the horse???

I'm not even sure he has perfected the wheel to build the cart with.

Valencia,

Nobody is trying to be rude, but just honesty here...you are looking at 2019 at the earliest. You have no NROTC scholarship in hand at this time, and if you don't get it than you have to compete in college for a side load.

The scholarship award rate for NROTC is on par with the appointment rate for USNA, @18%.

The attrition rate for ROTC is much higher than the SAs. Ever heard of the saying....wishing your life away? That is impo what you are doing.

That being said and with $1.98 you get a small cup of coffee!
