PFT Scores

Your curl ups are great, but your run needs some work. Your push-ups aren't bad, but improvement never hurts.

Kensy,

Are you a male or female? It makes a difference in the scores.

I apologize if you have already said in a previous post.

I am a male

OK, then you need to work on your run, even if you just double your mile time (and that would mean running the second mile at the same pace as the first one) you would not meet the standards for the APFT 2 mile run.

Talk to the track or cross country coaches at your school, get some advice from them. Get started on a run schedule, you will need to be running at least 5 days a week, mixing some long runs with some faster shorter runs to build speed and endurance.

Getting the scholarship is only the first step, you have to pass the APFT when you get to school to activate the scholarship and contract. Your tuition will not be paid until you pass the APFT, you will not receive any stipend until you are contracted or receive any book money. If you don't pass the APFT by the end of the semester you lose the scholarship for that semester and the cost of school is on you. It would be up to the battalion and brigade if they give you another chance the next semester.

At a 7:59 mile, you have a lot of work to do, start now so you can build yourself up, if you wait you'll risk injury by pushing yourself to hard. Think about joining the Track team in the Spring, even if your not fast it will give you the much needed training for the run.

A Computer Science Major won't help you a bit if you can't pass the APFT.

Just a word about PU's, make sure you are doing them with the proper Army form. When you take the APFT they do not count any that are not done correctly. It's not uncommon to hear the grader count out 1,2,3,3,3,3,4,4,5,5,5,5, as you can see you could have done 12 PU's and only 5 counted, this causes you to waste energy and makes it really hard to pass the test. Form is everything with the APFT.
