Nomination Group Interviews

My son is scheduled for a USNA Nomination interview with our local Congressman in just a few days. I have been told by their office that he will be interviewed by a panel at the same time as 5 other candidates. I find that odd, that he and others will be interviewed as a group, rather than individually. I am thinking that I may have misunderstood the contact person at the Congressman's office, and don't want to contact them again at the risk of looking stupid. Does anyone remember if their son/daughter encountered the Nomination group interviews?
Thank you for any help and advice, as I have found this forum to provide a lot of information!

My DS had his this past weekend and there were six members on the panel and he was the only candidate in the room. However, there were about five candidates out in the weighting room. I can't imagine they would be interviewed as a group. I guess it might be possible if you are in a highly competitive area with LOTS of candidates but I doubt it.

I'm not sure exactly how your DS interview is being set up, but there may be a different interpretation. MY DD's congressman and Senator both had all of their interviews on one day. More than 100 were interviewed by each. Each also had multiple panels interviewing simultaneously. This may be what your congressional office also may be doing.

They may mean that there will be 6 candidates being interviewed that day, not that all will be interviewed as a group.

My son's experience was that a panel interviewed him at the same time that other candidates were being interviewed by other panels. I dont think they mean that the kids will be interviewed together - more that interviews will be going on simultaneiously. Our experience with congressional offices is that they have this process down to a science. they have kids coming in like clockwork being interviewed by various panels.

:thumb: DS--3 congressional interviews. MOC house rep. had 1 panel which interviewed all of the candidates one at a time. The senators had multiple panels interviewing candidates over the course of a few days, so there might be 5 candidates being interviewed by 5 different panels concurrently. (The senators had about 300 to 400 candidates interviewing and if each interview is 20+ minutes, you're talking many hours to get through the list.)

First of all I wanted to thank those of you that provided the helpful information. My DS did interview with our MOC today. There were a total of 6 candidates (in his group) in the room with the nomination panel and they were all interviewed as a group, so you never know how it will go. Thanks!

Interesting. Personally, I would never do it that way but each MOC can approach noms any way he/she wants to.

Hope it went well!
