AFROTC Enrollment Allocation Chances??

Hey,

I'm a sophomore however I'm starting AFROTC at my school during the spring, so I will only get 1 semester before my enrollment allocation. I have a PFA score of 97 which my budding in AFROTC supervised. I am chemistry major with a 3.45 GPA and have previous leadership skills from high school sports team. I am also a part of the cross country and track and field teams at my university. I have my air force classes for the spring semester set and will do well in them without a doubt in my mind. I am wondering how much of a shot I have at getting an EA (enrollment allocation) even though I've only been doing it for a semester.

EA packages are usually submitted in February so I doubt you will even be eligible until 2016. If I'm reading your post correctly you are not currently in the program?

Not sure that you know but in order to compete for an enrollment allocation in the spring you have to join in the fall semester. The only people who join in the springtime are those who are in the JAG program along with freshman cadets. The JAG program is a competitive program that requires you to already be in law school. Pretty much chances are zero with what you're planning. I'm surprised your AFROTC friend didn't tell you this.

If you haven't talked with cadre at your university detachment yet you should. I'm assuming you just registered for the classes and you think you're good to go. You will need to file in some paperwork and they will say that same thing I said and tell you that you can only join as a freshman competing for an EA in Spring 2016 which requires you to have an extra year to your college academics.

I agree with others, it is almost theoretically impossible to go up for SFT if you are only starting in the spring. Most cadets right now are starting to be told where they stand with the unit. Last year by winter break there were cadets dropping out because the CoC has informed them where they stand and if it is not good they have decided to leave. CoCs typically have to submit their packets by the beginning of Feb. If your school is like my kids you won't be back in school until mid to late Jan.

The packets include not only your cgpa, but the PFT, the AFOQT/SAT/ACT and your rank from the CoC. Hence, it would be near impossible for you and nor would you want to because the CoC does not have enough after a week or two in the program to determine how you rack and stack. The CoC is worth almost half of your score.

The question you need to ask is if you are willing to extend college by at least one semester. To commission via AFROTC you must be a POC for three semesters. To become a POC you must graduate from SFT. The earliest you can go will be summer 2016, which means you have to wait until Dec 2017 to graduate.

Also before you go down this path, how are you from a medical standpoint? The DoDMERB exam is where most cadets get tripped up. They never realized that certain conditions or long term prescriptions will be an issue. I.E. I know you are on track, but trust me I don't have enough fingers and toes for the amount of athletes that were prescribed an inhaler by a doctor as preventive measures. They will state they never used it,but from DoDMERBs perspective there is no proof that they didn't, and must assume because they have it on their records that there was a medical issue to warrant a prescription. That immediately throws you at least into a remedial. Have you perfect vision? Many kids never go to an eye doc until they need to. They than get the shocker of their life that according to the military they have a color deficiency. Anything from food allergies to concussions to broken bones that require pins to set it can cause a remedial or worse a DQ that needs a waiver.

Good luck

Alpha and Flying a couple of quick questions that maybe you can answer.

1. Since they are entering spring semester as a sophomore. What would they be? 100? Or a 200 and next year be a 250?
~ The poster Ary stated that although he should be a 250, the det. is bringing him in spring semester as a 100, thus he will be a 200 next fall, not a 250.

2. Have they reverted back completely to the old system where the AFOQT is now the only standardized test used for selection?
~ A couple of years they used either the AFOQT or SAT/ACT whichever was higher according to their mathematical formulas.
~~ Last year they started the every 200 will take the AFOQT.

3. With the sequestration issues are they now waiting for selection before sending the non-contracted cadets, like the OP will be, or are they sending them in the fall of their 200/250 year?
~ Prior to last year, most of the cadet posters here went for the exam over their winter break. It allowed the cadets and the cadre to know prior to submitting the application if they were DQd or needed a remedial
~~ Curious because the old way very few would be pulled off the alternate list, but by delaying the exam until selected I can see more being pulled off the alternate list since a waiver in March/April can take 3-6 months.

4. Is it now 40% for CoC or is it still 50%? Pea brain can't remember if they actually did change it for SFT like they did for UPT.

Thanks in advance for your tutorials.

As far as I know, that one was a rumor. Commander's briefing from early this semester still had CoC ranking as 50%.

I'm not sure about that. Word from our commander directly was 40%.

Just curious... if a cadet is on a 4 year scholarship and told they were not going to get EA and they drop out do they owe the AF anything? For AROTC the first day of your sophmore year you are committed/indebted.

Technically they can charge you if you drop anytime after the first day of sophomore year but most of the time they don't ask for the money back if you don't get an EA slot.

If you drop out before you even compete, then you most likely will owe money back.
