For those of you who lie awake at night worrying about things you can't control...approximately 950 boarded...approximately 30% got offers...all offers were 4 year offers. Letters are mailed, and most of the winners have probably already been contacted or noticed their status changed. If your status didn't change hang in there.

30%, not bad. Around 285 selected. Goes to show what a very small slice of the pie this board includes when it comes to applicants.

Do y'all know how many of those offers were for Nurse Corps?

I hope my DS will get accepted. Status still Boarded and he got accepted already in his 1st choice of school.

Clarksonarmy,
Do you know the projected # of offers to be made for Nursing? ...seems like I read somewhere that it would be 100.

I'm really surprise that there were only 950 applications completed for the first board. Is this fewer than past years' first boards? Are there really a lot more applicants who make it in for only the 2nd and 3rd boards? I read a statistic that there were 5,000 completed applications submitted in 2012/2013 with almost 2,000 scholarships awarded. Pretty good odds. Did they do the same thing as last year where they awarded the top 3 school choices to all award winners on the first board, regardless of the cost of schools?

That sounds about right. I don't know the exact number of slots being offered but I know a lot of school no longer have a nurse mission and fewer slots will be given than last year.

I am fighting the urge not to dwell on the whole pending (Boarded) status while we hunker-down and wait....but my "knee-jerk" reaction was the same (that the initial "boarded" list was a bit lower than I expected). Having said that and also after working closely with my DS on his application process...I came to realize how much is involved in the process and there are so many variables that can slow things down (delayed PMS interview/upload intervals, high school being on vacation during all of August/no transcripts sent during that time, PFT grader re-scheduling constantly, re-taking SAT's, letters of recommendation coming in slower than expected and sometimes being discarded when the writer talks more about "themselves" than the prospective cadet..LOL, it happened to us, visiting schools when practicable so my DS "list" is something he can live with if only one school is identified, etc. etc. etc).

Sorry for beating the horse dead but my DS finished both AROTC and NROTC with every nook and cranny completed (and uploaded) by mid-August. I guess here's my take, in late September his high school had a "senior college advisory night". Now keep in mind, they are hardcore college prep but I was shocked as we sat there and the counselors said "for those of you who might be interested in an ROTC scholarship, now is the time to start the process (creating an account, contacting references, getting in shape, etc.)". Now, these fine young men (he goes to all male HS) may all fare better than my DS in the process..but I have to believe it is extremely difficult to complete all aspects of an ROTC application in a matter of weeks before the first board. My point is...I suspect the "load" of app's is coming and this first batch were the "early birds" like my DS..who regrettably did not receive an award (yet). Still...he has been accepted to all schools applied to, he recently re-took the SAT and bumped up his scores, and he can focus entirely on his final years grades vs. running around trying to complete college and ROTC app's in the middle of his first semester. That is definitely the silver lining for us.

So, SGTLee remains on fire watch checking my DS ROTC account every once in awhile. Good luck to everyone and look forward to sharing more news, good or not so good, as we take this journey together.

Your DS did well getting everything done early, mine had the same plan last year got all of his apps done in September, however he didn't make the first board because he wanted a better run time before submitting his physical fitness part. I'm not sure the timeline at your DS's high school but getting everything done early enabled my DS to devote all of Christmas break to other, outside scholarships apps (like community/local ones) which were due in early January/February. Good luck to your DS, my fingers are crossed (is Norwich still on his list, my DS is a Rook there)!

Meh126, I hear you. Seems like the few that are interested in ROTC at my DS's high school are aiming for service academies and viewing SMC/ROTC opportunities as a "back-up". After learning more about this process, I did caution a few parents that waiting until winter/spring for an SA decision (and not working towards and ROTC scholarship in parallel) may put them in a bind. Yes, my DS still has Norwich on his list, been in regular contact with the head wrestling coach who seems pretty interested (he's a great guy), and our admissions rep. indicated that a merit award of some type is forthcoming. How does your DS like it here?

Congratulations to those who have been offered (or who may still be offered) scholarships by the first AROTC board. Remember that you still have to get through the DODMERB process and be accepted by the college for which you accept the offer.

To those who have been boarded but have not received offers, don't be discouraged. Historically, the first board has offered a small percentage of total scholarships. The January and March 2015 boards are likely to offer many more than the October board. Also, a number of those who are awarded scholarshipsb by the first and second boards eventually accept appointments to the service academies.

If you haven't applied yet, it's not too late to do so, but you need to get to work. My son hadn't decided whether to enlist or go to college and got his application in just in time for the final board a few years back. Precise dates and deadlines are available on the informative Clarkson AROTC website. https://goldenknightbattalion.wordpress.com/category/the-scholarship-process/

An AROTC scholarship can be a great way to pay for college. However, it is really a sort of loan which is forgiven only when you have fulfilled your end of the contract: serving the required time in active duty or Reserve/National Guard. The more expensive the school, the bigger the loan.

You said "or may still receive scholarships." Does that mean the first board isn't completely done with awarding them?

An uneducated guess that not all notifications have gone out. I would imagine the board finished its part.

Someone posted today that they received the official letter in the mail. Since the letters have been sent it means this board is over and all updates have been made. If your page still says Boarded then you have been rolled to the next board.

DS' letter arrived in the mail today. Portal was updated Monday.

Does anyone have any leads as to when the next batch of winners will hear whether they've made it or not. Waiting patiently is pretty hard.

Should be February, give or take. Pretty predictably 3-4 weeks after the board meets, but I don't have the exact dates handy.
