Summer Seminar

Quick question about Summer Seminar: Does being a recruited athlete help you get into Summer Seminar? The coaches have showed a lot of interest, and I was curious as to whether this plays a factor in Summer Seminar admissions. Thanks for your help!

possibly,remember they also pay attention to academics as well, but i believe they're is some boost for summer seminar. It depends on the sport, but keep a higher eye on the grades, because that's what it mostly comes down to

Grades + distance from Annapolis are key - SS is to expose students to USNA who might not otherwise have familiarity, so if you live closer to Annapolis, you are somewhat less likely to get in even if your grades are outstanding. Similarly, if you are a recruited athlete and have already made any visit to Annapolis, you are somewhat less likely to get in. However, if you *haven't* visited, are a RA and have the grades, RA status may give you a bump in the SS admission process.

I'm not sure how true that is. Both my sons received an NASS invitation and I'm a USNA grad. So, I'm pretty sure the Admission Office knew that they had some familiarity with the school. Plus, we are from an area that routinely sends candidates to the service academies. We are not from an under-represented area.

I think invitations to NASS are a little more involved than many think. It could be because the candidate is highly desirable or that the candidate comes from an under-represented area or some other reason to which we are not privvy.

One son decided to attend (didn't like it that much) and the other opted not to attend.

I know from the USMA standpoint that being a recruited athlete helps to get a SLE spot. Coach told my DD to let him know if and when she wanted to go to WP SLE because he had "slots" for his athletes. And USNA coach did send a note to the STEM admissions folks when DD applied to that.
