I was curious about the incoming class size and if it was going to be smaller this year. I was told by my BGO that it was only a rumor and that it wouldn't change, but then at my MOC interview they told me it would be changing. I was wondering if anybody on here had heard anything.

My DD just received an appointment to the USAFA and her letter mentioned 1200 appointments this year. I'm guessing USNA would be close to the same?

Last year there were ~1170 entering US students (some international students). That number should be roughly the same for this entering class. Obviously, the number of appointments is higher, as some turn down their appointments.

I believe by law, big three SAs are allowed to have 4400 cadets/ mids. With attrition and everything, an incoming class of 1200 works.

Probably the unknown is the future commissioning requirement for each service, it will get smaller. So would it be a proportional cut in each commissioning source or not.

My DDs MOC rep told her that the class size for USNA would be smaller this year. The number of appointments will also be smaller. USAFA and USMA have been slowly reducing appointment numbers, but USNA hasn't done this up until this year. MoC rep said that the last two USNA classes had record high retention rates. This combined with the fact that a higher percent of those offered appointments accepted them the past few years forces them to cut # of appointments as well as incoming class size, to meet the fed law limiting SAs to 4400 cadets/mids total
