How many people can get a nomination from one congressman?
Thanks

Each person who can nominate candidates generally has one vacany (one spot at the academy for a candidate to attend). They can do a principal nomination where the academy will deffinitely offer an appointment to the candidate selected by the congressman, or they can do a competative slate where they offer up to 10 names to the academy and the academy picks one candidate from that slate to offer an appopintment to. thats the readers digest version and there are many other things such as LOA's and people receiving more that one nom that go into it.

Theoretically, 160.

Realistically, 40.

????

10 per opening is the law...so if a MOC has 5 openings, he/she can nominate 50 folks. 5 is the maximum openings any MOC may have.

Read the question carefully, counselor - it doesn't say anything about "per academy."

It says "How many people can get a nomination from one congressman?"

Take your "50 folks" and multiply it by 3 (for each DOD academy) and then add 10 for the USMMA.

Final answer = 160. :thumb:

(Theoretically, of course.)

Realistically, each MOC will have one opening per academy per year (total of 30) plus the 10 they get every year for USMMA = 4o.

One opening per academy= 1 USNA, 1 USMA, 1 USAFA. I count 3, where did you get 30 from?

We are talking about nominations in this thread, not appointments.

Each MOC can nominate 10 candidates for each open slot at each DOD academy.

yes, PA is mostly on a competative slate, and most of the congressmen only have 1 slot, so if you receive a nomination you have 9 other to compete with.

where from PA are you from?

Each MOC can have no more than 5 students at each Academy at a time. It is possible to have more than one vacancy in any given year. Our congressman had two vacancies last year. I'm not sure about this year.

It is my understanding that each MOC can have five "credited" total at any given time at each Service Academy. An appointment can be offered to a nominated candidate without being "credited" to the nominating MOC. That is why you are instructed to apply for all nominations for which you are eligible. Theoreticaly all ten nominated candidates from one MOC could receive an appointment and only one be charged to the MOC vacancy.

Would having 2 or more nominations from your representatives help in any way?

Yes it helps a little bit because it allows the academy to choose from which slate to give you an appointment from, thats if their going to offer you one.

13 appointments, 1 congressman

MOC's APPOINTMENT list just came out, he had 13 constituents going to 1 service academy.

Don't know how this worked out, but it has been a while since I took algebra.

In any case, this might be a positive sign for the class of 2014 candidates who are in competitive districts. :thumb:
