Ive always been interested in being a helicopter pilot and have found out that the army is my best bet. Does anyone know about all the types of helicopters that the army uses? and a little about the mission of them if its not a given.

Look for Scoutpilot to give you some info, a suggestion, google Army Aviation and you will find quite a bit of information.

Don't bother researching the OH-58 Kiowa, that one is going away.

Tread lightly when interacting with Scoutpilot he can sometimes get cranky...:shake:

Why is it the best bet?

Ft Rucker is where the Army has had their training.

They graduate Warrant Office and JO pilots. Are you seeking a Commission as an O-1 or as a Warrant Officer?

From my perspective-the Warrant Officers will fly as their specialty and the JO's will have a short life flying. Many of the Lateral Officers into CG aviation have said that it is a dead end for Army flying after making O-3. This is why they crossed over into CG Aviation.

The structure in the Navy,CG and Marine Corp are very similar and allow to you to continue to fly as an O-6.

As far as A/C, you can google each service to see what they support and where.

The Army is certainly your best bet from a helicopter perspective. We have more of them than anyone else by a meaningful margin. The amount you will fly depends on so many factors it's almost impossible to predict or list them all, but generally speaking you will do a good amount of flying through your LT, CPT, and MAJ years, though many opt to do something else by their time they're majors. If want to keep flying you certainly can. For most, it's not a matter of being able to fly or allowed to fly, but fitting it in with other things. But that's a long way off.

A large part of your decision will be driven by what you want to do in helicopters (or what you THINK you want to do).
