Class of 2019 Reception/Acceptance Day

If assume around July 2nd like this year, it doesn't matter too much as long as you get there.

I understand R Day will be June 29th this year. A Day weekend will be August 15th and 16th. The hotels are already filling up!

What is "A Day weekend?"

Acceptance Day, when new cadets officially become cadets after Beast and are "accepted" into the Corps of Cadets. There are things planned for parents on the Friday before the Saturday A-Day parade / formality. Then cadets are free to hang out with their families, go to parents' hotels on Saturday night, etc. Cadets have to be back on post by a specified time on Sunday.

^^ minor correction; if things stay the same, after the Acceptance Day parade and review on Saturday, (and when released by their company), plebes are permitted to travel and spend the day with their parents (in uniform) within a 75 mile radius but must be returned to WP by taps Sat. night, and then are released again very early Sunday morning and usually return by 3-4 pm Sunday.

You're right, my mistake. We did take our DS back on Saturday night, and picked him up again on Sunday.

He had a pass for the November Army/AF game and stayed with us in the hotel that night. I've done 3 trips to WP in 4 months and they're starting to run together.

Also, there are a lot more activities for parents on R-Day (after the 60 second good-bye and before the parade in the evening), then on A-Day, but you have no contact with your cadet after the "good-bye."

How are they already filling up? There is no way there are that many LOAs

Don't worry -- there are plenty of hotels in multiple towns that will be available next summer. Unless you want to stay at The Thayer on post, or something within a 1 minute walk, there are plenty of options. And there are always last minute cancellations.
