I'm apologizing in advance as this is most likely a very simple question and I have found the answer online but do not completely understands it.move just started looking into NROTC and I understand the scholarship of 4 years, but what if you do not receive the scholarship but would still like to go active duty after college, will the Navy still pay for part of your college?
Thank you,
Shea

Yes and no, but perhaps the best answer is possibly. You can participate in NROTC without the scholarship as a college programmer without receiving any monies or summer training. You can (re)apply for the four year scholarship or for a sideload (in-school) scholarship during your first two years of college while participating in NROTC. So perhaps you can get a scholarship that way. Additionally, if you don't already have a scholarship at the end of your sophomore year you can apply for 'Advanced Standing'. You must be approved by a national board for Advanced Standing' to continue in the program. If you are approved you will receive the stipend but no other monies. My own son received a sideload scholarship starting the spring semester of his sophomore year.

So once you receive a scholarship you can join in on summer training as well?
