Any others out there who got an invite to the Jan or Feb CVW? My junior DD is going in Feb.

Yes, my junior DS will be attending in Feb. I am pleased for him to finally experience the academy life. Just a bit dismayed that the CVW is during the 'dark ages'. However, part of me is relieved that he might see the low point and will have this as part of his information arsenal when decision time comes around.

Take Care.

Sorry, for abbreviated message, my senior DD who has an appointment is going to the CVW last weekend of January. She just wants to be there full time! How did your junior get a CVW? I should know this but my daughter who has appointment did all this herself but I have a younger child who may be interested.

My DS went for his in September, he was amazed and had a great time. They get to experience quite a bit, even attend some classes. My wife and I had great time touring Annapolis, so much to do.

Congratulations to your DD on her appointment!!
As for my DS attending a CVW as a junior, I have no clear idea why the invitation was extended. I can only surmise that it may be due to the fact my DS applied for all four years to the STEM program without acceptance and he has done well academically throughout all those years.

When DS first received an invite for the Fall, he thought it was a mistake....as he is a junior. He was unable to attend due to football; therefore, did not attempt to sign up. However, when the invite occurred again for Jan/Feb...DS leapt at the chance and signed up. When signing up for the chance (responding to the email link) the title on the screen said 'Junior CVW'. As a result, he realized that USNA might very well target juniors for CVW.

I'm sure my DS will benefit from this opportunity - he needs this to understand if this is the lifestyle he wants. (After reading and learning over a couple of years, my preference is towards NROTC... but it is his life and his preference is a service academy over NROTC.)

Take Care.

I believe my daughter got the invite after applying for STEM 2 years in a row (no acceptance year one, very late waitlist notification year 2 that we couldn't pull off) , plus signing up for USNA information, plus being a potential recruited athlete.

Yes visiting in the dark ages is unique, but I think great. This is a tough time of year for many Mids, especially Plebes. It is cold, dark, the end is near, but not close enough. Classes are hard and getting harder. But this is the low point and a good chance to see the low. Just a heads up cynicism will be high, but hopefully your hosts really take the time to answer questions you have. Also, ask to speak to upperclassman too. They have different views on things and you will see some excited First Class as graduation approaches.

I'm a Junior going to the January 29-31 session! Very excited to go and hope I get a friendly and informative plebe. Any suggestions for me on my visit? What is sign in and meeting your guide like? Will there be yelling and screaming like I-day or will it be more tame? I'd really like the full experience! Any details about what my trip will be like would be appreciated! Good luck to the rest of you going on a CVW.

Well, let us know how it goes so we know what to expect for the Feb CVW. Thanks in advance and have a great time!

You will be shadowing a midshipmen, it will not be like I-Day. You will room with several mids, eat and attend class with your mid, possibly work out or play a recreational sport with your mid (mine played squash late on Friday night with his). Ask lots questions from a variety of people to get various opinions.

I think it is just being in the system maybe. Last January, a week after my son applied to Summer Seminar, he got an invite to CVW in the spring and got to pick his month. Luckily it hit his spring break week, so that is when he went. I think once you have applied to something, you can be invited. He loved it.

That's great! Any update with his current package? Did he become an official candidate etc...

Mudge540, I can't tell if you were asking me about my son's experience, or someone else. Son went to STEM after freshman year, then applied the next summer to no avail. In Jan. his junior year, just a week after he applied to Summer Seminar, is when he was offered a CVW. He went to Summer Seminar as well. He completed his package in August and had his Blue and Gold interview in early Sept. Our Congressman hasn't announced his slate yet, so we are hopeful still for a nomination. Plan B is firmly in place, just in case. I'd be happy to answer any questions about the visits, if I can.

DD#2 received a CVW invite last January two days after she completed her NASS application. She attended the February CVW and loved it. Just a couple of suggestions... Bring your host mid a tupperware container of cookies/brownies. My daughter's host really appreciated it and shared it with her classmates. Bring something to read/homework to keep you occupied while your mid is studying. Talk to everyone and meet as many people as possible, and don't be shy about asking to go do things with other mids if your mid is busy studying or has other obligations. Also, if you are interested in a sport, ask the admissions officer to be placed with a mid who participates in that sport. Ask as many questions as possible!

DD#2 went on to attend NASS, received an LOA in October and an appointment in December.
