Hi everyone. Im new here around the forums but have been dreaming about attending an academy for years. Im a sophmore in high school right now and have been working toward trying to increasing my chance of admissions for awhile now. Just applied for the STEM Program @ Annapolis. Spent a lot of time on the application carefully typing in all responses and really trying to show USNA who I am and what I want to be. My PSAT scores werent great. Just below 1100 for the two part. Worried that'll keep me from being accepted even though i had an A in all the classes I had taken and many were Ib. Also in Air Force JROTC. Still worried about being accepted or rejected. Was wondering if anyone else has been accepted/rejected in past years and wouldnt mind sharing a little about them and how their application was looking. Also what your class rank was. I received an LOA for the class of '19 USNA. I am not accepted yet, I'm just waiting on being cleared medically now. I had all A's and was ranked 3rd out of 55. I didn't have very good act scores as a junior, a 25 I think. I studied a lot and raised my score to a 30. I had a lot of sports and ec's. Football, swimming, tennis, eagle scout, NHS, etc... Just work hard and do your best in everything you do.

If you want to compare apples to apples you need to compare your stats to the same geographical area. The criteria for an underrepresented geographical area for example, will be very different from a highly competitive one. Find the last few BFE receivers from your congressional district and ask their stats. A bunch of random people (could be blue chip lacrosse players, hispanic females, etc) posting theirs stats can be meaningless.

My D applied to STEM and was denied despite being top 5 in her class of 400 and with a very high PSAT. She then applied to Summer Seminar and was accepted. Now she has a nomination and is hopeful for an appointment. The bottom line is that do not be discouraged if you get turned down. Keep working hard on your grades and to improve your test scores and make sure you do some kind of varsity athletics.
As you may have noticed, the STEM program has been in a state of high flux (ie, frequent change) over its short life span, and seems to be trending towards the NASS model where there are several factors involved in the selection process beyond academics. Also, it is a relatively small program in terms of numbers of participants. The thing to keep in mind is that it should be a great opportunity if you pass the selection, but (as with NASS) failure to select should not be considered a disaster or a reason not to apply to USNA if that is your goal. NAVY is sponsoring several off-campus STEM programs, especially on the East Coast, so applying for the academy based STEM may put you in the hopper for consideration for the off-site sessions. Assuming that at least part of your motivation is to visit the Yard, I strongly support considering the sports camps and pursuing the Candidate Visit Weekend (CVW) in your junior or senior year. My DD just applied to STEM. I had not heard of the off yard STEM programs. Can you share any information on them? Thx
Yeah do you apply for the off the yard stem programs. I would love to. Also does anyone know of any other good summer camps that are worth applying to? I am willing to do anything to improve my chances of getting into an acadmey so would really appreciate any response. Thanks for all the above replies as well!

Any summer program is NOT going to improve your chances of getting into an academy. That being said they are all excellent programs and you can learn a lot, including a small glimpse into what it might be like attending an academy or serving.
