AFROTC Deadline

I know that today is the deadline for the AFROTC scholarship submission. Yesterday, I submitted the final piece of information, which was the PFA. It still shows that my application is "active" and that I still need to submit the PFA. I think it said that my PFA submission was under review by a scholarship technician. My question is, since I still submitted it by the deadline, am I good to go, or do I need to cross my fingers and hope that the scholarship technician approves it by the end of the day in order for me to meet the deadline?

No offense, but why did you wait to the very last day?

I wish you the very best and hope your dreams come true, I just don't get why you waited. I get maybe you broke a bone, but if it was to give you a few more days to up the score, I don't get it since AFROTC is like AROTC and not NROTC. Their first board already met.
~~ 1st board results are usually the without a doubt they will get a scholarship for this type. IE they will get a Type 1,2, or 7. Others are reboarded because they want to see a larger pool before awarding. IE they are on the cusp between a Type 1 and 2, thus, they wait to see if they should offer which type.

One thing to understand is that even if you did make it in on time, you may not be boarded because it is a queue system. The board will meet for a set time. If the pile is 1000 applicants and you are 922, but they only get through 921 than you will not meet the board.

Nobody can tell you if you will meet it because nobody here is at Maxwell and can state if it was processed in time to meet the board or when they meet if you will be high enough in the queue.
~ FWIW, it is unusual not to be boarded if your portal says board ready.

I would just sit and wait. As hard as it is to do that, in 2 years from now this 10 day wait will make you laugh compared to the 3 month wait for SFT board results.
~ C200 and 300 year for rated cadets live months waiting.
~~ Look at posts here. The threads start in Nov/Dec. For a board that meets in Feb. and it is a one and done board.

Not trying to be harsh, I know it may read that way, but just trying to say the stakes are going to become higher and higher in your future, best to understand now that if this was a last minute decision to apply it is one thing, but if it was procrastination that is a whole different ball of wax.

I understand, Pima, and wish I would have been more on the ball about the scholarship. Things have just been a little nuts lately, I've been completing other applications like USAFA, USNA, USMA, and NROTC. All the while trying to keep my 4.0 through finals week. I also wanted to get in a few more days of getting in shape before taking the test. Not trying to make excuses, just saying that there have been other things higher on my priority list and this scholarship got pushed to the side while I tried to meet other deadlines. Good news is, I received confirmation that my application was processed in time. Thank you for your advice, and I am hoping this doesn't come back to haunt me that I didn't turn it in sooner :(

I am sure I will get flamed for what I am about to say, but here goes!

BS flag.

Many candidates are applying to multiple SAs and ROTC scholarships while being a team captain for sports or class president and doing at the same time BSA, PT job,or community service. On top of that they are writing essays for MOC nominations, taking SAT/ACTs too.

I hate to say it, but you are not unique when it comes to this world. Unique for your HS peers? Yes. Unique here? No!

ROTCis not just showing up for PT and LLAB. You will have to juggle. Come 300 year you will have 20+ hours for your ROTC job. That is why 8 am being hard on you.

I am reading excuses. Your CoC will not support you for SFT/EA if your position is excuses.
~ Col. XYZ, it has been a little nuts lately....I am interning and involved with Silver Wings, while I also was the PT flight instructor as an engineering major. Please support me for not submitting my paperwork on the last day at 3 p.m.

Just saying this is the world you are entering AND juggling is something another cadet will accomplish.

I totally respect what you have to say, Pima. I admit that I have not been as on the ball as I maybe should have been. I am also aware that compared to lots of people here on this forum, I am nowhere near as accomplished as they are. Daily, I am humbled and amazed by what others my age are able to handle and accomplish. USAFA has been my dream for the last four years, and I have exerted every energy and effort into getting accepted there. Now that I cannot do anything regarding that but wait, I have decided to pursue some backups. Perhaps I am not persuing it with the passion I have for USAFA, but at least I am doing something. I agree with you whole-heartedly that I don't measure up to most people here, but I am doing my personal best. I honestly don't understand how most people here have done it all, but I am in awe of them, and hope to measure up some day.

I know Pima is only trying to drive a lesson home and I know baileydb understands that. The only thing I have that I can add to this is that I wouldn't have bothered to delay the PFA a couple days to improve your conditioning. A couple days will not make a difference there and one should always leave time for things to go wrong when approaching deadlines. Fortunately everything worked out well and you did, in fact, meet the deadline. Close call though! Hope your plans come through for you.

Thanks kinnem. Lesson learned regarding deadlines. I made a mistake but the good news is that I now know better and will not do the same thing again in the future. I appreciate the guidance of all forum members. Thanks for taking the time to advise and help.

Bailey,

Unfortunately forums have a downside.

My point was not to make you feel inferior. It was to drive home the point that we all can find an excuse.
You just need to understand that there will always be someone playing the devils advocate like I just did. If you can defend your position, than screw the devil!

Completely understood, Pima. There's just a lot of doubt and uncertainty going on right now. I LOVE this forum, but sometimes, it scares, me seeing the others who are competing for the same things as me. My dream is on the line, and I am seeing people who are so much better than me fighting for the same thing, and sometimes I wonder if I deserve it, even after all of the work I have put into it (and please believe I have put a LOT of work into it!)
But overall, I appreciate the forum and the advice received here. And every now and then, I need to be chewed out. I understand that, as a parent, you have a lot of advice and wisdom to share, having been through this with your own family. And I completely respect what you have to say for that reason. Please understand I took no offense to your post. I have been pretty stressed lately waiting for word from USAFA and unfortunately I let that show through my post.

They're not better than you! They're different from you! You might excel at some things, they may excel at others. Or you both might excel at the same things in some areas. But they are definitely not better than you. Once you get that, it's possible to talk with anyone about anything.

Many of us have been there. Guess what? We are still living! Sometimes you have to believe in fate and have faith!

You are NOT alone! We are all here to stand behind you and support you everyday until you call it quits!

You need to remember forums are not showing the whole candidate that the boards see. Don't read into it!

As for AFROTC scholarship, it is highly competitive. There are USAFA appointees that do not get a scholarship and AFROTC recipients that don't get an appointment. That being said, if you look at the commissioning class (USAFA and AFROTC) my bet would be a thousand of them are NOT either!

Thanks for the kind words and support. I guess all I can do is keep working at this point! And there is lots left to do, so I WON'T give up! And you guarantee anything that if I don't get an appointment this year, I will apply again next year, and the year after that, up until I am too old (I believe it's at 23?). Commissioning is the end goal but USAFA is my passion and I will FIGHT to be there! So don't worry, I'm NOT giving up, and I appreciate the support and insight from the forum members here for all of us candidates who are going through these processes.
And now, I will keep applying to other schools and scholarships. It's better than twiddling my thumbs while I wait!
Thanks again for the advice.
