As I am preparing for the NASS application on Thursday, I am looking at a copy of the app. that I printed out last year. Assuming it will be the same, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the "Remarks or Additional Comments" box, located In the testing and grades section, should be used for. I was assuming remarks about competitiveness of the school, and plans of testing improvement. Tell me if I am wrong.
Best of luck to anyone out there also applying come Thursday. Very excited for the whole process. Thank you for your help.

If I remember correctly, this is where you can just explain yourself if something requires it. An example might be that you made a "C" because ........
Maybe hardships, sickness, workloads, or whatever. I don't think it is necessary. Best of luck!

Just wanted to encourage you through the process by saying, REALLY write a dynamite essay! I really believe that's what got my DS in. He had only taken one test, the ACT, at that point and his score was really low. He chose not to add a test score at all (took it multiple times after that and brought it way up, but at NASS app time, it was low) so he left the test score section blank. He still got an invitation to NASS so it was likely his activities and he wrote a dynamite essay! Good Luck!

For all applying, one of the most important elements of being accepted to NASS is one you cannot control -- where you live/go to school. NASS is largely a recruiting tool, designed to introduce the Academy to places where potential candidates may not be familiar with it. Thus, if you live in ND or WY or downtown Detroit or a attend school that historically has sent few/zero people to USNA, you probably stand a better chance than someone living in MD, VA, and a school that sends 1-2 folks to USNA each year, even if you have "lesser" statistics.

This is NOT to say that candidates from "popular" areas and schools don't get accepted to NASS -- they do. But understand that NASS is not primarily about bringing in the very "best" candidates -- it's about marketing USNA and exposing the benefits of USNA to a wide group.

Finally, please do NOT despair if you're turned down. One of my candidates this cycle was turned down to NASS and is now sitting with an LOA. Likewise, I've had folks who attended NASS be turned down for an appointment. You should not view application/admission to NASS as determinative of your prospects applying to USNA.

I will be applying to NASS this evening as well. Curious as to what the prompt is for this essay as well as what the character limit is? Appreciate any insight you may have on this matter.

How important is it to get the application in early? Would a delay of a few days make a major difference?

1000 characters (personal statement)

Does the 1000 characters count spaces?
From experience with Online Government forms, I would bank on yes. I'm 98% positive. It's not that much, but consider the volume of applications. It makes sense.

The sooner the better. A few Mids I have been in touch with for a while told me you get reviewed quicker, which is always good. Getting reviewed later might mean they have fewer spots to fill, and might get more careful with their decisions.

1-2 days i wouldn't think so but try not to get it any later. I turned mine in the hour after it released, probably overkill now that I think about it. I had 2 other friends from my school with much better stats and more desirable in general who waited and didn't get in. I can't safely say that I know it was because they waited a couple weeks to turn it in but I can guess so.

Hey all tried to submit my forum but it says "Error!
Based on the information provided, more than one record has been identified in the USNA Admissions System. Contact USNA Admissions for assistance."
Whats up with this? tried calling, said they were closed?

Maybe I'm misreading this, but I'm assuming you meant you tried to submit your NASS application? If so, and if I recall correctly you need to use IE.

If you are not accepted to NASS do you have to fill out a new app to be ruled a candidate or will they rule you a candidate at another time?

The NASS app functions as the prelim app so you won't have to fill out another. The official candidate info comes in the Summer automatically so you don't have to do anything else.

My DS turned in his app within the first hour and got accepted within 10 days. His buddy with similar stats did it a couple of weeks later and did not get in. This really doesn't mean much if anything but was interesting. Also, he's the only one from his NASS squad that received an appointment. You just can't read any tea leaves and it can be a long and stressful wait.
