Which carries more importance for an application? GPA or ACT. I see more things written about ACT or SAT scores than I do about the GPA.

I think more is written here about the ACT and SAT because these are the only tests they can use to really compare all applicants nationally. They can do some manipulation of GPA based on the school profile but it's probably not as good an indicator as the national standardized tests.

They use class rank and not GPA. I heard act is worth more but take it with a grain of salt

What I've heard is 30% of your entire file is ACT/SAT scores, and 30% is class rank, not gpa. They want to see your performance relative to others in your high school.

I really do not understand why so much weight is given to class rank. It happens everywhere even non- SA's, but it is frustrating when you are in a very competitive school, and the class this year seems to be ultra competitive as well. Several headed to Ivy's. I guess they have use some criteria, but dislike the class rank method.

I can't swear to this but I think they might "normalize" class rank based on your school's profile.

I was told by a RC that they factor the competitiveness of high school to give different point to the class rank. One factor was what precentage of graduates attend college.
