January 15th Letter

He expected it but I thougjt him having the principle, he would beat the odds. Oh well. Now he can focus on baseball preseason for a couple of months.

I was expecting it, as well. But yeah, I would have thought with a principal nom, he'd be part of the "no brainer club". Oh well. Nothing to do but keep workin' hard for now, I guess.

I got deferred too. I guess we all just lucked into a bit more time to improve our applications haha. I'm glad it came early; yesterday I spent way too much time checking my portal!

DS received the same. Would have felt a little down if not for the guidance on this forum.

Agreed, shinycars. I think the forum helped prepare me to get deferred, so it wasn't as big of a letdown as it otherwise would have been.

Deferred here!

I see mentioned here about having a "Principal" nomination. If that in fact is true; and candidate is 100% qualified; then there's absolutely no reason not to expect an appointment. It is possible that the "Principal" nominee was deferred so the academy can see how they are going to handle a few others from the district/state and how the academy wants to move around nominations that are in common.

My suggestion: If an individual truly does have a "Principal" nomination, and their application is 100% qualified, then I suggest contacting your ALO. Have him/her check on your status and have them inquire with admissions the real status. Because once the dust settles, if in fact an individual has a Principal nomination and they are 100% qualified, the academy doesn't have a choice here. They have to give that individual an appointment. Unfortunately, on the forums, we don't always get all the information. We've even had some that were either told by their MOC staff incorrectly or they way they interpreted it, that they received a "Principal" nomination, when in fact the MOC didn't rank the actual slate at all. The individual may have been the MOC's "Best" applicant, but what they submitted to the academy for a slate of 10 names was in fact a "Competitive" list and not a ranked list or a Principal/Competitive list.

So check with your ALO. Verify you have a "Principal" nomination, and have your ALO do some investigating for you. Best of luck. Mike....

Deferred too. That's better than a no! Question, since he was deferred can he add to his packet now? He set a couple weight lifting school records in December after the EA deadline. Since he doesn't have a varsity sport he really needs to get that on there.

I'd call your admissions counselor with that information.

Keep your heads up and keep improve your resume!
Only the tops get chosen for the Early Action.
I was deferred too for the early action last year, but didn't give up my hope.
Among my friends here at USAFA, I do not know that many that were selected at Early Action.
Most of them received their appointment around mid-March like myself.
Just keep working hard and don't give up!
You all got this! :D
Ask any questions if guys have any.

My DS got a deferred also and the letter says to continue to update them with any new information.

Deferred also. I agree to other posters, no surprise thanks to information from this forum. Best of luck to everyone!

DS was deferred as well but thanks to this forum, we were mentally prepared. Best of luck to everyone going forward from here!
