Summer Orientation for Army ROTC?

Hi there,

I was wondering if there is any sort of summer orientation that I will have to attend for Army ROTC. I am a four year scholarship winner and hopefully will be attending the University of Florida or University of Virginia next fall.

Which board were you selected as a winner ?

I was awarded the scholarship from the first board.

Unless there is something new, then the answer would be no. Your orientation would be to read all the advice posted in the "Advice to 4 year winners" thread and workout like crazy over the summer, don't be doing anything crazy that may cause a significant injury and show up on Day 1 ready to rock and roll. After this though, you can expect to be doing something via the Army every summer.

It is 100% school-dependent. At DS's school, cadets arrive and move in one week before everyone else for Stand To, which is orientation for the new cadets and essentially a re-organization for current cadets. Check with cadre to see if the programs at UF or UVA do something similar.

I agree with the above, it depends on your unit. My school had orientation for incoming AROTC scholarship winners where they would show up a week early, link up with their mentors (MS2's), move into their dorms, get necessary paperwork completed with the HRT, take their first APFT to validate their scholarship, get issued gear, and a few other classes on the basics. My school only required the scholarship recipients to attend, as well as their parents if they wanted to and the parents were able to meet the cadre and talk with upperclass cadets while their kids were doing paperwork.

There are schools that do not do any sort of orientation though. My school just liked to get the paperwork and first APFT completed as soon as possible so new cadets have the opportunity to get their scholarships turned on.
