Nomination Question

Yesterday, I got a call from my Congresswoman's Office notifying me of my nomination. However, when I went to my portal to confirm that the nomination went through, I read two nomination notifications under the "nominations" bar.

The first nomination's code was "MA05", which is my congressional district. However, the other nomination's code was "MA61". Is it typical that two notification notifications appear per nomination? Also, MA61 is not a congressional distract, so I am unsure as to what that code means.

I would like to think this is a Senatorial nomination, but I was not called or emailed by either of my Senators.

I will attach two screenshots of these notifications to further clarify.Screen Shot 2015-01-30 at 11.40.11 AM.png Screen Shot 2015-01-30 at 11.40.37 AM.png

I'm going to guess that you got a Senator nomination. I actually did get two noms from my rep because he had two slates available but both nominations showed up as ga-12 under the nominations tab. Usually the senators are higher numbers after the state name. I don't know how they go about determining that number but yes I think you got a senator nom. Congrats best of luck.

grking,

I have a congressional nomination from Ma as well, and when I logged in yesterday, I saw the same thing for the Ma61. I believe that this is a senatorial nomination. I read somewhere that they use 61 and 62 as senatorial codes for all states because no state would have that many congressmen, so they use these two numbers. I guess we will find out when we receive word from both Senator Markey's and Warren's offices. Hopefully it really is a Senatorial nomination, and not some system error.

I know that @vtechroomie1 received this nomination on his portal yesterday as well.

Thanks for the information. I guess we wait until the letters arrive.
Does anyone know which Senator uses which code?

From what I understand (from a post a while back on this forum), the senior senator is 62. On my portal it shows AK61 for the junior one and two AK62's for the senior senator.

There's some debate about this on this forum -- my DS received a nom from the junior senator and it was listed as KS62, so our assumption is that the senior senator is KS61. It appears to vary by state (the "1" and "2"). Doesn't really matter since the "6" designates a senatorial nomination.

We went through this last year, I remember. It's not consistently senior or junior senator assigned to either number. Maybe it started out that way, but elections and retirements change seniority. I don't think they change the code each election cycle. It just stays with the seat. You'll have to wait to get your nomination letter to see which of your senators nominated you.

Update: I now have a nomination from both MA61 and MA62, but I was talking to another applicant from another district at a track meet, and he said that he also had a nomination from both Senators show up on his portal. A friend of his also had that happen. It could just be a coincidence that all three of us happened to receive the noms (we all were pretty well qualified, had attended SLE, etc.), but this is making me a bit more suspicious. Have any other MA candidates received noms from both Senators? If this could be a glitch, has anything like this ever happened before?

I would guess that at least one, and maybe both, of your Senators had more than one open slot this year at USMA, meaning more nominations to dole out and less worry about doubling up/spreading the wealth (if that is the case typically in Mass.). Just a guess.

But, as you said, you had a strong file and went to SLE so you earned it. It's not a glitch.

I have also received a nomination from both senators.
