DS received a request for body measurements to be completed and forwarded. Thought he was on the mark of weight. Is this a standard request or is it triggered based on height and weight or is it another hurdle in the review process? Thoughts or experiences to share?

I do believe that they did this at the Coast Guard Academy when my son went there for Cadet for a Day. He also did his PFE at the same time. He is a slender, swimmer build, so I doubt that they request body measurements because of a concern over weight. It must be a standard part of the review process.

This depends. Did your son receive an appointment? Or is his application still in review?

It's triggered if the height/weight reported by either the applicant (within their application) or PFE Administrator (on the PFE Score Sheet) is outside the accession standards. If you want to send me a pm, I can confirm the measurements we have for your son since it sounds like you think there may be an error in his record or he can just return the form and then we'll definitely have the correct body measurements.

Yes I think his weight was higher when he took the PFE. He is thrilled that his prep college has a new food vendor this semester and has dropped pounds already since returning to school. Maybe it was what you noted... The PFE weight.

Question, If the MAW is less than allowed, but the tape for BMI = 19%, will that result in a problem for admission?

What I meant was, if the MAW is exceeded by the applicant, but tape for BMI = 19%, will that be a problem for admission?
Applicant is large frame--- 7 1/2 inch wrist, neck is 16, waist is 36...from what I have been able to see, that results is a BMI measurement that equals a 19% body fat, which meets standard.

My son is a big framed kid as well (when he applied to academies....18" neck, 38" waist) and he got this same request from the Air Force. Now, as a 4/c he still has an 18" neck (to hold up the 26" noggin) but a 32" waist. He will probably always have to be taped because of that but now his "BMI" via the taping is less than 10%. Personally, 19% is a little too close to the edge for my taste. I would tell your applicant to run a bit more to bring down his waist size. Good luck!
