If you have an LOA you can still get rejected?
Why would you get rejected?
In other words, what would make you ineligible for an appointment?
Also, if you don't too soo hot on your CFA, is it possible for you to get the appointment? As long as you have everything else?

If you have a medical disqualification that does not get waived, you will not get an appointment, even with a LOA.

If you don't do so great on your CFA but the academy still indicates you pass, then provided you are med. qualified or have medical waiver and a nomination, you get an appt. I have been told that people with LOA's who have not gotten in are usually because of: medical waiver denied.

i'm in danger of not getting an appt because of the lack of a nomination.

Medically qualified in August, passed CFA, received LOA in December. Denied a nomination from both senators and congressman. Applied for VP nom. ANything I can do at this point? Thanks.

So basically.. if I've been medically qualified and all that then there should be no reason why I wouldn't get the appointment?
Because I've yet to take my CFA and I'm very very very worried that my scores are not good enough to pass.

If you don't mind telling, you can PM me, what are your current scores on the CFA? If you don't pass it, then it is a deal breaker, but if you PASS it you are good with LOA, and medical qualification (do you have a nomination?) you would be good. IF you don't have a nomination, then the Academy will make every effort to "find" you one from one of the sources you could not apply for but are available to you.

You MUST pass the CFA to win your appointment. It should state that on the letter.
Generally if you don't pass they will let you know and give you an opportunity to re-take it and pass it.
If you can't pass the CFA, chances of completing your summer training are markedly decreased. You really need to be in good physical condition.

Yes, call the CGO in Admissions at the Academy. Have a discussion and let them know that you applied for nominations. They may already know but they can let you know where you stand. As long as you put forth a good faith effort on your part - you should be ok

Do you happen to know what the minimums are in order to pass?
I know that my scores probably won't be excellent but it should be acceptable..
And also, it only said in the LOA that I will be guaranteed an appointment upon completion..
so I was very unclear on that point.

My son had an LOA for USAFA and a nom (NO LOA) for USNA. He contacted his MOC liaison and explained the situation-(they had already received the LOA) contacting the MOA was the best thing he could have done--he was given the additional nomination and that equaled an appointment. As the deadline for MOC submission has passed I am not sure what your MOC options are, however I WOULD contact your regional admissions officer and discuss this if you have not already. If you have an LOA, you are on their radar. Their are other avenues of nominations available, but you have to let them know you are committed to the process. The supe nom is always a possibility--especially for an LOA recipient--- but they do not like to discuss it. Ask about it....you have nothing to lose.

CFA Lower Limits

I know that my scores probably won't be excellent but it should be acceptable..
In 2006, USMMA posted some minimums for the PAE, the predecessor of the CFA. The ones that correlate are:

Bball throw - 50'; Pull-ups - 5; pushups - 25

Based on data that I've compiled from self-reported scores on this website, I find that the bottom 17% of candidates score below:

Bball - 56'; PUll-ups - 6; Shuttle run - >9.5 sec; pushups - 46; Mile - >7:25

You don't want all your scores to be in that group. One or two can be offset by good scores in the others.

And also, it only said in the LOA that I will be guaranteed an appointment upon completion..

Actually, I read that as pretty clear...Don't complete the rest of your items satisfactorily, don't get the appointment.

As others have counselled, if you had an LOA since Sept, you are on their radar. Realize that the standard for completing all the items in your application package, including the CFA, is thirty days. You've had plenty of time to do your CFA. Do your best.

My child's LOA said that if the medical issue was not cleared up by April 15, then the LOA would be withdrawn. Has anyone heard of this happening? If it does, then are you put back in the rolling admission pool?

LOA

Hi,
I received an LOA last week and the only thing I am waiting on is a medical remedial. The medical remedial is about a suspicious mole I had removed from my back in 2002, a rather flippant thing to be holding me up. Does this look like my offer of appointment is coming soon?

Contact Mr. Mullen, his contact information is below. You say you are waiting on a "remedial" so you mean remedial or waiver? Have you received a remedial request letter? This letter would be from DODMERB and would have instructions for you to have an examination/record review from a specialist or for you to send additional records, etc. If you have a remedial letter, follow the instructions. If you have already been to your remedial exam, contact Mr. Mullen to see if they have received the additional data and where your waiver request might stand at this point. Good luck!

"If you have any questions regarding DoDMERB about policies, procedures, your specific case (I will have to verify who you are), or anything else, I am the DoDMERB official to provide you a response. I'm always available and in most cases, will respond immediately, but will respond within 24 hours on all cases.

My email address is ALWAYS open. I'm the DoDMERB Bureaucrat Buster. Give me a chance:) Larry.Mullen@dodmerb.tma.osd.mil

Now that I've been at this for a while, I "usually" log in late at night and several times throughout the weekend. The issue is the fact that this is not an "official" site and the USAF maintains a very high level of internet security. So, I can't access the site from work---I must log in from home.

Thx in advance for your understanding, patience., and the opportunity to assist you"
