How competitive is it to get a nomination from Maryland MOC's?
Specifically the Senators and Rep. Delaney?

Which service academies are the most popular (in terms of application) for Maryland?

How many people typically apply?
 
I don't really know about Representative Delaney, but it's pretty competitive to get a nomination in Maryland. USNA is the most popular for Maryland students so it is the most competitive. According to Senator Mikulski, about 300 students applied for her nomination to an academy.
 
senators usually from 250-300. By far USNA is the most competitive, but keep in mind cardin and mikulski's nominations will knock out a total of 20 from each academy slot given your congressman doesn't double nominate, which most in md dont.

I'm truly surprised that that number isn't higher for a Senator, especially in what is supposed to be a very competitive state.

The last part wasn't clear, so I will clarify to say most Congressman in MD do double nominate.
 
Sorry to send a contrary message. Not intending to add confusion re double nomination, but DD got nom from Sen Mikulski in November. DD got a letter 1-2 wks ago from Cardin saying she would have gotten nom but b/c she got nom from Mikulski she wouldn't get Cardin too. Same info confirmed from congresswoman- DD would have gotten nom but they weren't going to double nom. Not saying it doesn't happen. Just DD's experience, which seems to be consistent with previous post about double nom in MD. We can debate merits of lack of consistency for nom process between states and benefits of multiple noms, but there are already threads covering those. Best of luck to all waiting on BFE!

Let me try to clarify, from what I have seen

Senators don't double noiminate (i.e. if Senator Mikulski nominates a candidate, Seantor Cardin won't nominate the same candidate). My understanding is both senators only give out one nomination per candiate.

I stand corrected on on MOST MD Congressman doing double nomnation. I can definitely say there are two Congressional districts with candidates with a Senator and Congressman's nomination to West Point. I know one Congressman's office that sends out similiar letter as Cardin. With this year's West Point nomination data, it's inconclusive to determine if remaining Congressmen double nominate or not. There are a few Congressional distriction with candidates with nomination from Congressman and other nomiantions (service connect), but that could be a function of the Congressional office not relizing that the applicant already has a nominatin.
 
If they double nominate for other academies, on some cases most likely but for the Naval Academy I know they do not.

From her website Senator Mikulski had 350 applicants and interviewed 310 so I was a little bit off. I know for USNA mikulski's and cardin's nominations will cut it down by 20, so the total number of USNA nominees will go down for the congressman!
 
One additional piece of data I should have added- DD's experience is only referring to USNA, which is the most popular SA in MD. No clue re other SA's.

That's similar to what they did in Ohio last year e.g. DS received noms to different academies from different sources and in one instance a MOC nominated him to three SA's. This year, they've really tighten it up and like you in MD Senators are working diligently as possible with Congressional to also ensure no doubles.

Don't feel alone out there on the east coast...we're right here with you.

Same happened to DS for USAFA. Received nomination from Delaney for USAFA; Cardin sent letter stating DS would have received his nom, but since he received one from the congressman, they won't double nominate.
 
Not sure if this has applied in years past, but my DD has applied for noms to USNA through both Cardin and Mikulski. Cardin only allows the candidate to seek a nom to one SA, but Mikulski allows the candidate to list multiple SAs. Harris hasn't yet opened his nomination applications - waiting until August. My DD already has a Presidential, so she may not get one to USNA from any. She's also applying to USMMA, which requires a congressional nom and does not accept Presidential noms. Hope the senators and congressmen know that USMMA doesn't accept Presidentials.
