AROTC scholarship benefit question

Recently I was awarded a 3 Year AD Army ROTC scholarship. When the letter came in the mail, the benefits it said it covered was "FULL TUITION". I might be mistaken, but doesn't the scholarship cover full tuition OR room and board, ect.? Since I will be attending a college in my home state, room and board will be much more expensive than the cost of tuition. Is there a place I am supposed to specify what I want the scholarship to cover, or am I supposed to do that at a later time? Any insight will be helpful.

Thank You and God Bless

It's been a few years since I accepted the scholarship so I don't remember if there was a section to select Room & Board, but if you can't find it, just let the HRT know as soon as you sit down with him/her to complete the contracting paperwork. You can also switch back and forth between the two each year, so don't feel like you will be locked into one or the other. There will be a form you sign each semester that says things along the lines of "I haven't done drugs, been arrested, yada yada since I last filled this out, I'm still healthy and I want to use my scholarship for ____."

Check some other threads on this forum on this issue but using scholarship for room and board may be considered taxable benefit, unlike using scholarship for tuition. May be negligible but get all the info you can.

You are able to select the R&B option once you're on campus.

Once on campus there will be a form that you fill out with your package where you will pick it for Room & Board. This gets done every year while on scholarship.
As others have said, using the scholarship this way is taxable. It is also not paid as quickly as when used for tuition so be prepared for that. For the Fall semester it's usually paid sometime mid to end of November in my son's experience. Spring was paid late Feb. to early March.
My son used his scholarship for Room & Board all 4 years as he had a state scholarship for tuition.
