Is it possible to choose not to go to SLE even if you're accepted? I just received my final exam schedule and they were for some odd reason pushed back to coincide with the SLE weeks (they were always scheduled much earlier)...My final exams are worth 20% of my year average so I need plenty of time to study for them. In the worst case scenario, is it possible to not attend SLE even if you are chosen to go?

Try to change your SLE date, I am assuming they should be doing two iterations.

Doesn't your school do make ahead or make up final exams.

You can look at the situation in two ways - why not to attend SLE or how do I do both?

My grad did not apply to SLE and the exam situation was one of the reasons. He did not want the hassle of rearranging everything. He had visited West Point several times and was satisfied with his decision to apply.

My DS attended last year during final exam week. The High School was very accommodating and allowed him to take exams once he returned from SLE. The teachers also agreed to import grades during their personal time in the summer. The guidance office helped coordinate. If you have a guidance counselor, check in with them to see if it's possible to allow you to get the SLE experience. Best of luck!

I am trying to fit both into my schedule currently...However, I want to know if there is an option to not attend the summer program as much as it pains me. Also, how is one notified of his/her acceptance to SLE? I received a letter in the mail from Westpoint but it was just encouraging me to apply to the school...

DD #2 Turned down a SLE visit last year. She was admitted to USAFA and USNA's SS's and couldn't do all three. She just sent an email declining the invitation. She does not think it hurt her chances for this year.

Yes, you can turn it down. My DS turned it down last year, as it was the same week as Boy's State. He had already committed to attending USNA's summer seminar the other week that USMA had theirs, so he couldn't switch the date. When he met his RC at a local briefing this year, she did ask him why he turned it down. He explained that he went to Boy's State instead, and she said that was fine. He did receive an appointment, so turning it down didn't affect him.

Attending SLE does not help your file. Likewise, turning down SLE does not hurt your file. There are no WCS points given for attending SLE.

I suggest you contat them to move to a different week. I did this last year and they were more than happy to move me.
