Confused about appointment

I am pretty confused in a certain aspect of obtaining an appointment or not so much in obtaining it but more of how could I possibly still get one. I have created a similar thread before asking a similar questions which was answered fairly well but I'm still a little confused. I received a nomination from my congressman back in December and that was my only nomination source. I did not get one from any senator etc.... Anyways I went on my congressman's page today and noticed he has given out quite a few appointments to the Naval Academy already something around probably 6 or maybe 7. Now it is to my understanding that he can legally only represent 5 midshipman at a time at any one academy (correct me if I'm wrong) so I'm really not sure how he has given out so many appointments. Now I also get that some of these people may have had multiple nomination sources and the academy might put them on different ones in order to allow more people to get in. Im just worried what my chances are now that it seems like so many people have been accepted on my nomination source. Should I be worried at all or not? Sorry for the long post and thanks for any help.
 
While only five at any given time are technically charged to the MOC, they will take credit for political purposes for any and all candidates on their nomination list that get an appointment. Remember the other nine can get an appointment off the national pool. i remember a few years back looking at some MOCS list of appointments (they published). There was definite overlap. In fairness, you may not even have a t shot at the national pool unless you get a MOC pass (NOM). so credit is warranted on some level.

GA had close to 30 last year go to USNA. If I recall correctly, there are 14 districts and of course 2 Senators. Some of these likely were appointed with a PRESIDENTIAL. Some probably had a MOC, SEN and POS NOM.
 
SBROWN96 It looks like your district gets a lot of appointments. So far, a total of 17 students from the 9th Congressional District have received appointments for the 2014 freshman class. I know it very difficult but be patient.
 
Remember not all those that have an Appointment will be charged to that MOC. I think USNA1985 or some other great resource gave a great example of how 8 of 10 or even more could get an Appointment from one slate. Just because your MOC is posting they have Appointments doesn't mean they are being charged to them. They are citizens whom live in his district, but they could have Presidential, VP, Sec Nav, Supt, Senator Noms. Yes, only 5 Mids will at any time will be officially charged to him. The others will be from any of the other variety of appt sources.

Agreed! My son was "recognized" by his Congressman, but we know for a fact that he was never charged to the Congressman's slate. Actually, to this day we do not know who he was charged to, therefore leading us to believe he was charged to this mysterious NWL...... But, the Congressman's do get a list of all candidates from their district who will be attending an Academy, and believe me, they will take publicity credit for it and all candidates that receive an appointment whether or not they are charged to them or not. We were invited to a very nice recognition ceremony from our Congressman even though we know our son was not charged against his slate...
 
We only found who we got charged to at the end of Plebe Summer. We got handed a small 3x5 card from the Registrar's office that asked if we wanted to have our grades sent to our MOC and our parents. The card listed our Appointment source and congressional district. I think half of us were surprised who our Appointments were eventually charged to and to be honest none of cared. Not sure how they handle the question of mailing of grades now, I am sure it is probably electronic.
 
Really?! Thanks for the insight Navy Hoops!! My goal for tonight is to get that info from my firstie..haha!! He has been rather tight lipped this whole time! I have read posts from parents who have access to their Mids online account... NOT the case here. He is totally on his own (and I am glad that he chose not to share the info with me. The change I have seen in him from plebe year until today is remarkable !! But I to this day would LOVE to know who he was charged against... It this public record?
 
He might not even know depending on how things are done at USNA now. I am sure it's in his file somewhere, not sure if the registrar has it or not. To be honest, your DS might not know or care. I was at USNA during the transition to electronic files, etc. Mostly it was all paper. I never sent my grades home to mom and dad (neither did any of my friends). Even if we had electronic applications or other online accounts at the time I was there I would not have given them access. But that is up to each Mid to decide.

And yes the difference between plebe year and firstie year is so different. The confidence, maturity, ownership of their future, and excitement for the fleet is huge in a firsie. Enjoy commissioning week, it was amazing.
 
The questions regarding whether MIDN want to send grades/performance information is now part of the MIDS database information system (but doesn't say the nomination source). I think one could go to Admissions, registrar, or library to get the information if they really wanted it. In the USNA alumni roster sent out a few years ago, it had the nomination source listed (not sure why, but that is how I comfirmed which mine was) for some of the classes.

If you don't mine me asking how did you find out that number of students have been appointed?

If you are asking about finding out now... You won't. Admissions is still putting that puzzle together. They are moving around appointments as they go through the process. Someone could be slated for a Presidential Nom right now and then when they review a MOC slate they could move to that Nom. It's a big puzzle for the admissions board and things won't settle until later.
 
One area of this process that puzzles me is that some MOCs are very open about their nominations, while some aren't. Some even have receptions for their nominations from what I have read.

I realize that an MOCs personality might be expressed in how they attend to this important process. I will just come out and say it: I am afraid that the lack of transparency can look like they are trying to hide something.

Whether they are doing it or not, it might look like they are rewarding contributors, or trying not to offend voters whose DS or DD did not get chosen. Or maybe they want to give the nominees a bit of privacy. Or maybe they are lazy. Maybe they are not proud of their nominees.

My point is...without transparency, people will always come up with questions. Sure, in the grand scheme of our short existence, this all means bubka. I am very proud of my DS regardless. He received a nomination all on his own. All we did was support him and read his great essays. It's not about the parents, right?...;-)

I googled your congressman and academy appointments for 2014. It came up. You can find out a ton of info if you know where to look.
 
I wonder if that might be last year's appointments . . . I would be surprised if 17 from a single district have already been appointed this year given that most appointments probably have not gone out.
 
I agree USNA1985. It says 2014, so I am guessing that was last years too, for class of 2018.
