The one slot

I have a question. Is it safe to assume that all candidates that filled their district's one or two available slots have already been notified of their appointments, or could there still be numerous slots that have not been filled yet. I was just curious about at what point the admissions board will be "moving on" to the national pool from the MOC available district slots. We are getting nervous. Thanks in advance!

They will usually move on to the National Pool sometime in March.

There could be slots out there. The candidates files do not close until end of Feb. There could be candidates that have yet to submit their CFA, thus on that slate the MoC cannot be charged because everyone on the slate must have a WCS. Now, would I say that there are a lot of candidates in this position at this time? No, but it might be your slate.
~ IE the candidate is on 3 MOCs slates. The same two Senators that you are on. That means if those two did not do principal, than they have yet to be charged, and you are still in the running.

Thanks everyone. Our MOC hasn't even announced his slate in the media, and I haven't been able to find a news release of anyone receiving an appointment. We are to the point where if we knew someone already had the slot on the competitive slate, it would be easier to wind down and prepare for a TWE. I know there is hope in the pool, but his chances were much greater in our district I think. Best of luck to everyone.

Even oif you knew someone appointed, you are making an assumption that could be off the mark. The candidate could have an LOA. LOAs may or may not be charged to the MOC.

IE the LOA candidate basically is guaranteed an appointment if they get a nomination. That doesn't mean they have the highest WCS on the slate. If the LOA does than they can be charged, but if the candidate that submits their CFA today has the highest, than that candidate will be charged and the LOA will be charged to a different source.

The MoC can state they had two from their district appointed, but from a charging perspective it would only be one.

This is why sometimes you will see the MOC give a principal to a candidate that is not LOA. It guarantees that at least two (Principal nd LOA) on the slate will be appointed prior to the rest of the slate going to the NWL.

I have seen slates where 8 were appointed...only 1 is charged, but if the MOCs duplicate, the chances increase. Some will be charged to Sen. A, some to Sen. B, some to Congressmen District 1,2,3, etc. Some will also be Presidential. Some will have LOAs. Some will be offered NAPS.

Unless you know for sure that everyone on the slate does not have a second nomination or not an LOA, I think you are taking a big leap on the assumption of NWL.

The answer is there is no timeline. As pima said, you can't make any assumptions for the variety of reasons provided above.
Best advice: just sit back relax, wait, and distract yourselves -- no use in "worrying." It isn't easy, but you can't do anything to make the process go faster.

^^^ I agree, this is one of those commonly asked questions on here. Where a NOM gets issued could be different there where USNA eventually charges that NOM. You can't assume your son/daughter is out of the running just because your MOC announces something about another candidate. Since it is only late February, there is still quite a bit time during which USNA will continue to issue appointments.

Anyone who is 3Q AND has a NOM is still in the running for an appointment until otherwise notified by USNA.

MOC slates were due Jan. 31st. Files from candidates are to completed the end of this month as far as I know.

Caveat: I am assuming USNA is like USAFA and USAFA closes candidate files this month.
~ We all know what the word assume means, so please no flaming!

Just an FYI on the numbers game that we learned yesterday. We went to a congressman's nomination event for our district. My son has an appointment to USMA. There were 5 others who also had appointments to USMA. No idea on the source of the appointment or other nominations. There were 2 to USNA and 4 to USAFA. Don't get caught up in the slots game. There are many ways to fit candidates in. We live in Nashville, TN.

+1.

Our DSs friend did not get selected by any MOC, a state that duplicates. He did have a Presidential. He got appointed via March Mass Mailing.

Had he received any MoC nomination, they could have still charged him to Presidential.

Think of appointments like a 1300 piece jigsaw puzzle that they do not know what the picture will look like completed as they build it.
~ Corners and edges are Principals and LOAS. Then the my!triple nom's are the next easiest pieces to fit in. Once they have that done, they can see what the picture will start to look like.

For now, move on with plan B, C and D. There will always be candidates that get appoint!ends, but denied ROTC scholarships and candidates that get ROTC scholarships, but get a TWE.
~ SAs are geographically centric at first and than go national. ROTC scholarships are national.

This year both USNA and USAFA had to have files complete, to include CFA, by 31 January. The exceptions being waiting DODMERB waivers or if the Academy asked you to retake a CFA, as long as original was submitted by 31 Jan.

As a current example to what Pima has described, our DD did receive a call from her MOC congratulating her on her appointment, but we don't know now, and my never know, if she was actually charged to MOC, or charged under her Presidential Nom. so others in our district should not lose hope.

Weren't CFAs due Jan.31?
You are correct. This is from the USNA Admissions web page.
Except in very unusual circumstances, candidate files not completed by January 31 will not receive further consideration.
It doesn't really matter in this case though as others are essentially correct that many slate slots have not been assigned yet. I would expect that to happen over the next couple weeks though.

I'm so glad to read both of these points! I assumed that since our DS didn't hear anything 'early' that the time for Presidential appointment had come and gone. Also glad to hear that a denied NROTC national scholarship does not equal a denied USNA appointment! Hanging on to hope!
