Ok so I did not get the NROTC 4-year scholarship, but I still want to do NROTC in college. Can I pick any college that I applied to, or can I only pick one of the 5 schools on my application, or will I just get assigned to a unit. I'm kind of lost.

Since you were not awarded a scholarship, you can join the NROTC unit at the school of your choosing. Pick the university that is best suited for you and contact the Recruiting Officer there. Tell him you want to become and ROTC cadet. You can still compete for a NROTC scholarship once you are attending that university. Best of luck.

Honestly, it might be best to consider your end goal here. If your ultimate goal is to get a Navy scholarship while in school and commission as a naval officer, there are some schools that are easier to get scholarships at. Searching for the absolute top ROTC program will often make earning that scholarship a little harder since the better programs attract more people, upping the level of competition for the scholarships.

If your ultimate goal is to go to a school you love, or you have a specific program you want to focus on, go to the school that fits those needs best. You can still do ROTC, and let the chips fall where they may.

I don't know how accurate this is. I think the NROTC side-load scholarship for college programmers is a national competition. I would think the other non-scholarship midshipmen would be your competition even if you were at a less popular college. Kinnem?

You are correct. It's a national competition.
