Have the majority already been appointed?

Does March see more BFE's or TWE's? Just read a post where someone said that because it's March, they can expect the TWE again. I thought March was when most of the BFE's would go out? Am I missing something? Have most who will be appointed, already been so?

First, it's very early in March and typically quite a few appointments go out in March. So the fact you are still waiting does NOT mean a TWE is on the way.

That said, TWEs for fully qualified, nominated candidates tend to go out very late -- because final decisions on those candidates are made late. So, most, if not all of those who are "close" to receiving an appointment but will ultimately get a TWE will (if this year is like other years) likely get it toward the end of this month or even well into early April. So in term of pure numbers, more who are waiting will get a TWE than a BFE.

usna1985, I was hanging on ever word of your post and was encourged for my DS until I read the last line then my heart sank...though we are still holding out hope for that BFE.

Sorry, just being honest, based on what has happened in prior years.

I agree with "usna1985"; but please keep in mind that every year there are a fair number of candidate applications that aren't fully completed until mid to late January
(particularly college re-applicants who are required to turn in a first semester college transcript which in most cases is not available until mid to late January) and many of those are still going through the Admissions Board / Admissions pipeline although that log-jam should clear in the next two weeks at the latest.

A pretty safe assumption is that candidates who had everything completed and in by January 1, 2015 and have not received an offer of appointment as of this date are now dealing either with the National Pool or have already been deemed tentatively unqualified for appointment.

Also, NAPS/Foundation remain out there and some folks may eventually be offered that option.

But they told my DS his application has not been reviewed yet??

What is a TWE vs a BFE? I'm lost -- but waiting for good news for my son!

I actually don't think this is a safe assumption at this point BUT I also don't think this should matter to the candidates. Case and point, my appointment was dated March 5 and I was charged to my Congressman (I know that for a fact). While, I was a college re-applicant, my transcript arrived in the office in early January. Regardless, it shows you how that slate wasn't decided until March and had I not done well, it could have gone to someone else who did have all of their application in before January 1. Furthermore, a few years ago, they were still going through slates at this point.

When was DS's application originally shown as complete on his candidate portal; and has Admissions requested any additional information from him regarding his file or from DODMERB regarding any potential waiver issue?

TWE: Thin White envelope (Notice of non-selection)

BFE: Big fat envelope (Over-sized manila envelope containing an offer of appointment)

His application was complete in September and no they didn't request anything. His DODMERB was fine

There are of course exceptions to everything; and as you point out, your file - as a college re-applicant needing to submit first semester grades - was not complete until early January.

Your experience in when you received your appointment was no different than one of our sons who was a re-applicant from Purdue. Same general timeline.

Late to the pipeline - late to get through; and perhaps Admissions was waiting for you to clear the pipeline so they could look at the relative strengths of everyone on your congressman's entire slate before they awarded the appointment.

.

That seems very odd at this late date since everything was available for review at such an early date.

When did you last check and where did you get this information from (BGO, RD, Congressional Appointment Liaison, Academy Admissions Officer)?

All of them have dashboards that give information on whether a file has been completed (reviewed); and in most cases will share that with you although they are not supposed to tell you was the final disposition of the candidate's file was.

I'd check again if you haven't checked recently and there have been no requests for additional information on your DS - either to him personally or to DODMERB.

He called his ad officer last week

Just a thought: We may be dealing with semantics here:

The assumption is that his application hasn't yet been reviewed by the Admissions Board.

In fact, it may well have already been reviewed and completed by the Admissions Board.

The "not yet reviewed" may indicate that he is completed, qualified and on the selection board at Admissions itself (and yes, in years past there has been an actual wall board) but not yet reviewed in comparison to other candidates on his slate and then in relation to others in the National Pool.

If it were me, I would re-ask the question specifically addressing whether he has been reviewed by the Admissions Board and his file completed.

I called our MOC liaison last week to see if they had heard from USNA regarding their slate and was told they had not. Makes sense that they may have been waiting for a late app to get reviewed before determining who won the slate slot or slots-I believe that based on previous year's appointments(assuming everyone stayed and will be graduating)there were more than one.

We do know that he has been determined to be fully qualified for appointment so his application has been reviewed by Admissions Board. Now we wait to see how his ranking on the slate or NWL works out and if the Office of Nominations and Appointments selects him.

I feel the same way, NavyMom19. I thought March was a good month for BFEs. DS had complete application that went before board in September we were told by BGO. He was ranked first on the slate by the interview panel, but turned in on an unranked slate. This is not looking very hopeful, but we will not give up. At least the application will be easier the second time if he gets a TWE.

I'm a little confused.

As referenced in a number of places on the forum, There are actually two review processes at USNA:

Admissions Board reviews candidates to see whether they are fully qualified for consideration of appointment.

Office of Admissions then reviews the qualified candidate pool and determines who actually gets an offer of appointment.

Yes, the Admissions Board is important but only as a screener.

Office of Admissions actually calls the shots - totally independent of the Admissions Board but partially based on the Admissions Board's finding that a candidate is qualified for consideration.
