VP nominations for 2019

Has anyone received a VP nomination yet?

Pretty much anyone who applied for the VP nom will get it ... but the VP is like the MOC -- he can only have 5 cadets/midshipmen at a SA at any given time, so only 1 (maybe 2) nomination is actually charged to the VP each year.

I think I am confused ... I thought the VP could only nominate 10 people for 1 slot (or 20 people for years when 2 slots are available.

Anyone that fills out the VP application form properly can get the VP nomination (it's unlike the MOC nom in that respect). So there are likely hundreds of candidates that "have" a VP nom .... but only 1 (maybe 2) can be charged to the VP for each SA.

This is new information for us - if you receive a VP nomination are you allowed to compete for NWL - or qualified alternates?

A clarification:

In theory, the Vice President has the same rights of nomination as any Congressman.

The reality:

The Office of Admissions chooses who those nominees are - not the Vice President's office. Even though the Vice President is in theory allowed 10 nominations per slot available in any given year, Admissions will typically use only ONE nominee who THEY choose (in order words, a slate of ONE- not 10) for the Vice President to nominate and match it to the one (or two in some years) Appointment(s) the Vice President is entitled to.

Vice Presidential nominations and Appointments are the longest of long shots; and Admissions in the past have used them to offer Appointment to that very exceptional candidate who for some reason was not able to secure a nomination from any other source.

very helpful thanks

No problem.

V.P. category doesn't even come to the table for discussion until almost all (99%) appointments have been made - both from the initial go-through and from the National Pool.

Literally one of the last appointments assigned and made.
