11 missing in Blackhawk crash.

So many in one training session. Thought and prayers go out to everyone and I also pray that the Coast Guard can find all the bodies for these families.

The CG is still considering it a rescue mission, I sincerely hope they are still successful in their efforts.

Sadly, don't bet on it. Water temp alone would've likely killed the Marines by now. The aircrew might have been in Mustang suits.

I sadly agree with you.

We were never ones to give up on a rescue until we had to, but the outcome here looks bleak.

Just to be clear, the Coast Guard doesn't do "recovery." Yes, often the Coast Guard will recover bodies in the course of a SAR case. The Coast Guard will conduct search and rescue missions until there is little chance of finding anyone. They will then "suspend" the search, unless there is sufficient reason to continue. There are survival curves that consider exposure time, water/air tempertures, likely survival gear, etc.

Sorry for any confusion I might have caused. I guess what I'm hoping for is if they didn't survive that they would at least find the bodies during SAR before it's called. I hope that makes sense.

Prayers and heartfelt sympathy going out for all. Heavy fog - or whatever the situation - makes for dangerous flying.

My prayers especially for the mothers -

That makes perfect sense. Those SAR guys and gals REALLY want to find them living. But if that can't happen, they want to provide closure for the families and friends. I was in a few SAR cases, and each time it was an intense emotional event where you hope to find them, alive. Every breaking wave or bird taking off in flight looks like someone waving his arms, and you heart jumps.

Prayers for the service members, their families and friends.

That's horrible news... My son is stationed at Eglin and we were down there visiting over Christmas. Wasn't very long ago that they had the fighter jet go down in that area as well. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families....
