Happy Nowruz from the White House. Look it up. Didn't see the Ayatollah celebrating Christmas. God save America!

It's a smart gesture, really, not something to get worked up over. You may want to change the channel or try a different radio station. Nowruz is a Persian holiday which goes back for thousands of years, pre-dating Islam, and celebrates the arrival of spring. There is a substantial number of Americans of Iranian extraction who are most likely pleased to be recognized. Something else worth pointing out is that the United States and American culture are quite popular with many citizens of Iran, particularly younger, urbanized ones. (The mullahs and marg bar Amerika types - not so much).

The White House also celebrates Diwali (an Indian festival), St. Patrick's Day, Cinco de Mayo, Lunar (i.e., Chinese) New Year, Chanukah, and Columbus Day, among others.

On the other hand, if they start celebrating the festivals of Xipe Totec or Xilonen the way the Aztecs did, then we may have to do something about it.

As an aside, Cinco de Mayo is a bigger deal in the U.S. than Mexico....

As an iranian eid-shoma-mobarak! I really appreciate your not at all sarcastic words :))))))))) Cant wait to serve this country and all the great demographics that it represents, you know...... what differentiates us from being compared to countries like Iran :)!

Maybe you should look up "Nowruz".

Nowruz is the Persian New Year and celebrated across what was once the Persian Empire. It's celebrated by all religions. It may be a religious holiday for Zoroastrians but I don't know.

What I do know is that if Nowruz parties are anything like Iranian graduation and wedding parties in my town, please invite me. Nothing but fun, smart people, awesome food and top shelf liquor.

As a former resident of southern California, I can assure all that Cinco De Mayo is an American drinking holiday (or at least that is what my Hispanic neighbors told me).

Didn't need my neighbors to tell that. My liver reminds me every year!

Not much worth celebrating in the White House these days. Let 'em have their little doings.

Very great seeing all these posts! Iranian/Iranian-American people are very nice and friendly but the government overshadows the population! If there are any Iranians in your neighborhood go to their parties it's a great time!!!!! A lot of the young people really like American culture!!!!

Always loved Cinco de Mayo and Shrove Tuesday, especially on Burbon and Deserie
Street

If you have experienced St. Patrick's Day in Killarney Ireland it is wonder to behold.

There are a lot of Polish people in this country but we don't send a congratulations on "Nowy Rok". Happy St. Patrick's Day by the way. Then there is Hogmanay that we haven't heard from the White House.

It seems everyone here is telling you to grow up and let it go. I suggest you do so. This country celebrates many different traditions, some are left out. Keep your backwards opinions to yourself please. Clearly you did not regard any of the posts above. Have a nice day

If they make you eat haggis on Hogmanay, I'd just as soon pass on that one, laddie.

This may be controversial, but I think the US govt. should only celebrate and acknowledge official US holidays. Let individuals celebrate whatever they wish. I don't see foreign governments celebrating US holidays, and rightly so. I don't expect nor want the US govt to acknowledge Oktoberfest nor St. Nicholas Day nor any of the other "holidays" we celebrated in my family. So I don't expect nor do I want the US govt to acknowledge nor celebrate Cinco de Mayo, St. Patrick's Day nor Nowruz. I can think of better use for my tax payer dollars than funding another party celebration and decorations at the White House.
